A tropical depression has formed in the Bay of Campeche off Mexico’s southeast coast and is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm over the weekend. The depression was located about 130 miles (210 kilometers) east of Veracruz, Mexico on Saturday. It had maximum sustained winds of 30 mph (45 kph) and was moving west-northwest at 7 mph (11 kph). A tropical storm warning was issued from Boca de Catan south to Tecolutla. The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm before reaching the coast of Mexico, where it’s expected to make landfall on Sunday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The Philadelphia Flyers had an NHL draft that would make the Broad Street Bullies of the 1970s proud. Five of their eight picks are 6-foot-3 or taller. General manager Daniel Briere said it was not the team’s intention to bulk up the prospect pool with some bigger players. It just happened that way. Dave Parker, a hard-hitting outfielder who was set to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame next month, has died. He was 74. The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Parker’s death on Saturday, and no further details were immediately available. Nicknamed “the Cobra,” the 6-foot-5 Parker played 19 major league seasons, 11 for the Pirates. He was the NL MVP in 1978, won a World Series with Pittsburgh a year later and then won another championship in 1989 with the Oakland Athletics. Parker won back-to-back batting titles in 1977 and ’78. He finished his career as a .290 hitter with 339 homers and 1,493 RBIs.

A video of Padraig Harrington arguing with NBC reporter Roger Maltbie for not helping him look for a lost ball during his opening round is generating buzz at the U.S. Senior Open. Harrington teed off into a thicket of trees in the first round, and after about a dozen people unsuccessfully searched for the allowed three minutes, Harrington went back to the tee box for his third shot. Harrington is seen in the video telling Maltbie that, as a former pro he should understand that it’s bad etiquette not to help someone search for their ball. Maltbie argued that he was being asked to deliver a report for TV on what was happening on the hole.
A hard-right lawmaker has replaced Greece’s migration and asylum minister amid a political shake-up. Thanos Plevris now takes over from Makis Voridis, who resigned Friday to defend himself against fraud allegations. Voridis, himself a right-winger, is accused of involvement in a scheme to provide farm subsidies to ineligible recipients. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has submitted evidence to Parliament, which must vote to lift his immunity for prosecution. Voridis denies wrongdoing, saying he stepped down to clear his name. Four other lawmakers linked to the case also resigned Friday. Despite the change, Greece’s strict migration policies are expected to remain unchanged under Plevris.
Jannik Sinner has confirmed that he recently fired two members of his team but declined to explain the reason for the change ahead of Wimbledon. Fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio were replacements for people involved in Sinner’s doping case that led to a three-month ban earlier this season. Sinner said Saturday that he decided shortly after losing in the second round of the grass-court tournament in Halle, Germany, this month to make the change. Sinner has not yet found substitutes for Panichi and Badio, who both used to work with Novak Djokovic. Wimbledon begins Monday and Sinner is the top-seeded man.
