Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, has been formally charged with multiple serious offenses following an extended police investigation.
Oslo law enforcement officials reported Høiby is facing charges that include one count of rape involving intercourse, two additional rape counts not involving intercourse, four counts of sexually offensive conduct, and charges related to bodily harm. The investigation, which began after his arrest in mid-2024, involved extensive evidence gathering through interviews, digital communications, and property searches, according to the New York Times and CBS News.
Authorities also stated that the case involves allegations from a “double-digit number” of individuals. Oslo police attorney Andreas Kruszewski confirmed the broad scope of the investigation during a press conference.
Høiby, who is not in the line of succession to the Norwegian throne, has reportedly cooperated throughout the legal process. He was interrogated several times between fall 2024 and spring 2025.
His attorney, Petar Sekulic, said in a statement to the New York Times that while Høiby is treating the allegations with seriousness, he denies any criminal conduct in the majority of the accusations, particularly those related to sexual assault and violence. Sekulic expressed hope that if the case proceeds to trial, his client will be acquitted.
In 2017, Høiby announced he would stay out of the public eye and live a private life. According to his mother, Høiby “has always had a role that has been difficult to define in the public sphere. He is and will be an exceptionally important part of our family.”
