  1. Did we have people shouting for the deaths of British soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq? I remember maybe one or two people saying things like that online, but it didn’t spread much beyond edgy online teens.

  2. Shouldn’t he be concentrating on selling off the NHS or whatever his job is, rather than getting upset about what people say about foreign militaries?

  3. The scholarly consensus is that the IDF is committing genocide. Our rules based international order says it’s a genocide.

No I don’t support Hamas or Hezbollah, nor am I anti-semitic, I’m on the side of the kids being slaughtered.

  4. Regarding the actions of the IDF: You cannot blame the individual soldiers, captains, corporals, colonels, majors, etc. of the IDF, right? They were “just following orders”!

Huh? Where have I heard that before?

  5. Anyone would think Bob Vylan shot a bunch of people waiting for aid, wasted an aid convoy or bombed a hospital, given the outrage..

  6. Perhaps the IDF are out of touch?

No bibi it’s everyone else that’s wrong

  7. Yeah, but they also love to chant ‘no borders’ whilst standing in the middle of a fenced of bit of private land that you need very specific paperwork to get into and if you don’t have it they throw you out… so they’re not the brightest

  8. The UN Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, inc. East Jerusalem, and Israel thinks that the IDF are ALL war criminals .

Edit to add video of press conference:

Quote is from after minute 14.

“Our finding that the basic military strategy used by the Israelis Since 7 Oct’23 leads to the inevitable conclusion that all those who have played a role in any way in the implementation of this strategy are suspected of the Commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity”

  9. It’s all just a middle class circle jerk. Another cause will be trendy at some point.

  10. Is it possible to condemn the actions of the IDF and Israel while not inciting violence on others?

There are ways to support Palestine and the people of Gaza without wishing death on others and supporting a terrorist organisation that has stated they want to kill Jews.

Maybe I’m the odd one out here – and I’m sure I’ll be about to find out with the downvotes coming my way – but so many comments seem to ignore the irony of wanting the deaths of some people to stop while supporting calls for the deaths of other people.

    Maybe it’s just me.

  11. Stop wasting time on a music festival and please focus on the real issue: the unattainable peace in the region and the continued suffering on both sides.

  12. So people who organise a pop festival have questions to answer but he offers no opinion of Israel and their death squads, interesting stance for a ‘left’ wing MP.

I think I’m voting Green next time, I’ve lost all faith in this lot.

  13. The ironic thing is that this wouldn’t have received an eye bat had the chants been about the Russian army. Hypocrisy at its finest.

  14. I agree there should be questions.

Politics and political statements should not be voiced from the stage at a music festival. It should be left to politicians.
Politicians are the voice of the people that elected them.
SOMETIMES, POLITICIANS NEEDED TO BE REMINDED OF THIS AND WHAT THE PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY THINKING.

Which is why you SOMETIMES NEED political statements at music festivals.

  15. It’s the IDF who has questions to answer about the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the weekly progroms at the West Bank

  16. Fuck Streeting, what’s it got to do with him anyway? It’s a concert, full of creatives with opinions, something no government likes.

  17. The IDF literally murdered a British ex-marine who was volunteering for aid charity.

A British ex-marine > some skinny conscript who’s term is just 18 months including training.

And fyi: The marine volunteered *before* the conflict and never planned to be near Gaza.

Let that sink in. Digest. Metabolise.

  18. Fuck the IDF. Their evil knows no bounds, great work from the Vylans, they’ve just taught a new chant to a lot of pissed off people. And fuck off Wes, you’ve always been a right wing lickspittle.

  19. If there’s ever peace between Israel and Palestine a hell of a lot of people are going to lose the only thing that defines their entire personality

  20. All this bullshit previously demanding people condemn Hamas (a guerilla army), and ACTIVELY support the retaliation to Oct 7th that killed more innocent people than the targeted terrorists.

Now you can’t condemn IDF (an army, a government funded and train organisation who’s purpose is to engage in warfare) and you can’t verbally suggest retaliation to active unlawful killing.

    The raw hypocrisy is infuriating.

  21. think its so pathetic the politicians of this country are losing their minds over graffiti and festival chants but conveniently shut their eyes when it comes to innocent children being slaughtered. kier starmer cries about palestine action being a terrorist group meanwhile he supports israel whose soldiers opened fire on weaponless civilians trying to get food for their families. and i’m supposed to take him seriously? bore off.

  22. So many people have t bothered to read the article. These comments are embarrassing.

  23. You can ask the festival all the questions you want, it won’t answer you.

    It’s a festival.

  24. Funny, he was on BBC this morning saying Glastonbury chants are nothing compared to the real issue Israeli genocide.

  25. Appalling is sniping kids in front of their parents, so they go to help and then shooting them for sport, bombing hospitals, and killing aid workers, trying to start ww3, but what would I know is appalling these days? Israel, we are looking at you.

  26. Like I kinda get the Kneecap comments about killing MPs because they are individuals who represent constituents in this country. Why is Wes Streeting, a cabinet minister for the UK government, going to bat for a foreign army?

  27. What about death to the Waffen SS? They’re pretty much the same thing

  28. I genuinely think the word death was used because it rhymed.

  29. Was I the only one who thought the chant meant “destroy the institution that’s carrying out a genocide” rather than “please specifically go out and murder every single soldier without trial”?
When you keep gaslighting and silencing people who just want to stop this horror show, they’re going to get louder and the chants will probably get less nuanced. Maybe stop your party from facilitating an active genocide before you complain about people shouting stuff you find mildly unpleasant at a festival.

  30. Streeting immediately after labeling the Death to the IDF chant appalling: “If we compare it to the war in Ukraine, I want Ukraine to win, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to call for the death of Russians.”

What, even Russian soldiers, Wes? So how does Ukraine win, exactly?

    🤡

  31. The IDF is doing some awful things in Gaza but if they didn’t exist, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of jews would have been exterminated over the last few decades by neighboring Arab nations.

You can critique a countries military and actions without chanting for them to be put to death.

  32. So much outrage over violent chants towards a military force who is currently killing tens of thousands of civilians. The pearl clutching is pathetic.

  33. Musicians have been saying political and controversial shit on stage for decades. Bob Vylan and Kneecap aren’t doing anything new here at all, but it’s being treated like the worst thing in British history. Regardless of which side of the conflict you’re on, this media hysteria over it reeks of the Satanic Panic.

  34. Don’t tell Streeting what the IDF have been upto if he thinks hurty words from a musical artist is ‘appalling’

Blatant censorship and anti democracy from fake Labour. They are a sham of a political party and another stain on British politics. Shame on them.

  35. “I don’t like the situation in Germany, but I think chanting ‘Death to the Wehrmacht’ is a bit much” – melts in this thread c. 1940

  36. I don’t get what is antisemitic about calling out the actions of the Israeli military against CIVILIANS in Gaza.

Maybe not the best shouting ‘death to the IDF’ but can we stop that it’s antisemitic to criticise the actions of the Israeli military against CIVILIANS and it’s not even antisemitic to criticise isreal and the actions they take, it’s not because they are Jewish it’s because Isreal has a habit of being very heavy handed in its military operations especially in Gaza where collateral damage isn’t even tried to be limited.

  37. Questions like how did a conservative like Wes Srreeting get selected by the Labour Party on the first place?

  38. The chant is cringey but if you’re not outraged about the daily killing of innocent Palestinians by now then you’re hopeless

  39. He is also complaining about the prison sentences given to the people who posted on social media during the riots earlier this year.

He can’t have it both ways, either everyone can say what they want, or there is limitations on speech

  40. Why do we need to know what the health secretary of all people feel about this?

  41. Poor taste i agree but If it gives middle class champagne socialists a feeling of belonging then fair enough.

“Appalling” is a bit much though, artists have been deliberately being outrageous for decades, the bar is set pretty high.

  42. Sorry Wes this isn’t your lane, maybe you can cheer yourself up by privatising cancer treatment or something

  43. ‘I’m not a fan of what the nazis are doing, but don’t you think calling for their death is a bit much?’

    — all you fucking losers in c. 1940

Also they’re a music group and that phrase rhymes, really not hard to understand they mean fuck the institution
