Extinction Rebellion infiltrates Shell on day of action

  1. We absolutely should be doing more for the energy transition.. But a lot of these people seem to want to is to switch away from oil overnight. What do they realistically expect will happen in that case?

  2. I don’t understand XR. I mean there is so much carbon been sunk into the sea by this point and it’s slow releasing; even if we all switched to a carbon free infrastructure we are still basically doomed to turn the planet into a unliveable hellscape within 50 years.

I think these XR people are either

    a. not aware that the tipping point case been crossed decades ago
    b. choose to ignore it so they feel like they have some form of control

  3. It’s actually fucking DEPRESSING TO SEE THE COMMENTERS IN THIS THREAD SHIFT THE NARRATIVE FROM THE “WHY DONT THEY PROTEST SOMEWHERE THAT DOSENT EFFECT ME!!!” AND NOW THAT THEYRE NOT PEOPLE ARE LIKE WELL YEAH BUT ITS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHINT ANYWAY OR THEYRE JUST DOING IT FOR THEIR EGO. WE ARE SO FUCKED

  4. As somebody who was saying why don’t they target the oil companies directly, I can and will get behind this 100%.

Put pressure on the companies and the government directly and keep the pressure up.

  5. I love the UK politics posts. A lot of them comment so well, so eloquent, about how dire the situation is. If only fucking words made the situation better lmao.

  6. Shell the corporation that is simultaneously struggling because of the fuel crisis and making record profits.

They made £14.3 billion in profit last year. Profit generated by destroying our environment, funding dictators and brutal regimes, and charging struggling people more to stay warm.

  7. Must have taken weeks of planning I mean, they all walked there right? And they brought pre prepared food that was hunted the night before and didn’t buy any of it from shops which had it delivered by petroleum vehicles?

  8. The article is behind a paywall. How exactly did they infiltrate? I know you need a security pass or someone working in the building to vouch for you to actually get any further than the lobby. Plus there are security guards. Did they glue themselves to the public lobby area? Did they storm the building and break the security gates to get further in?

  9. Shell signed a bunch of offshore wind options to lease only the other day. Maybe Extinction Rebellion’s tactics are working…?

ETA: here I am with some perspective on how Shell is actually decarbonisng and I get downvotes. Shell is panic buying offshore wind now.

  10. Wow its like the discovery of fire! Finally realised that interrupting random citizens isn’t such a good idea and went for an oil company instead

  11. I am totally on board with this, and the optics are great. The only thing people didn’t like about extinction rebellion was that their protests didn’t disrupt the mega rich oligarchs, they just annoyed commuters. If they keep this sort of shit up I’ll be supporting them vehemently

  12. It was hit and miss if I could get my Mum to Addenbrokes hospital on Monday for brain surgery. Took me a total of 6 hours cruising around to try and find diesel to make it happen.

I mean, guys, I actually agree with you, you are on the side of right. But man, I had to get my Mum to the hospital for her op.

  13. XR are universally hated by the majority of the population because they are a bunch of sanctimonious middle class wasters preaching at the rest of us, they obviously are wealthy enough to do this during the week inconveniencing those of us that actually have to fucking go to work.
The Irony that is completely lost on them whilst protesting about oil stood there filming it on their plastic phones wearing man made (plastic) clothing because they’re all bastard preachy vegan cunts too.
The Dutch have the right idea how do deal with them, run em over.

  14. I work in the oil industry – not production, maintenance. 1 thing you have to understand is the quantity of money. I’ve worked in the aeronautic , transport and nuclear industries and none of them compare to the rewards available. Like pumping cash out of the ground. Asking someone to give up a cushy office job with a fantastic salary is going to be difficult.

  15. Overground filled with above seat adverts cunningly inserted on top of real adverts by Extinction rebellion…so cunningly done noone seemed to notice!
