REVIEW: Doechii’s Glastonbury performance sees her triumph over a biblical set clash

Already one of my favourite Glastonbury headliners

Rodrigo is spectacular, and I’m getting emotional seeing how many young girls are in the audience for her set. This is going to have a profound impact on them: core memory, life-changing kinda stuff.

Thoughts on Maccabees from our head of culture Patrick Smith

“Not going to lie: I’m getting pretty emotional watching Maccabees doing ‘Precious Time’. Never thought I’d see the day they got back together. Seemed so off the cards. Set sounding really good on the telly, and my friends in the crowd tell me it’s such a party vibe.”

OK, Olivia looks INCREDIBLE

And so confident! Her band sound amazing. There’s actually a bit of a stunned silence as the band halts for a moment before she breaks into “Obsessed”. Someone’s also been taking lessons from the Taylor Swift school of dramatic pauses/facial expressions.

Olivia Rodrigo is about to take to the stage…

In just over five minutes, pop star Olivia Rodrigo will play the closing headline set on the Pyramid Stage. I’m SO excited to see this – a few of my brilliant colleagues on-site have lamented the lack of surprise guest appearances during major sets (no Lorde or Billie Eilish for Charli XCX? Rude), but I have high hopes for Rodrigo. My dream would be for her to bring out Elvis Costello, who defended her after she was accused of copying his classic track “Pump It Up” for her single “Brutal”. A mash-up of the two would be bloody brilliant.

Other guesses? Maybe Harry Styles, who’s been lurking around Worthy Farm all weekend. But ideally, given her rock’n’roll outlook, we’d see some veterans join her – I’m talking Patti Smith, Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jagger…

‘Kneecap are the perfect Glastonbury band – the political controversy is proof’

Wolf Alice review, Other Stage – ★★★★☆

A huge moment for London’s favourite indie darlings Wolf Alice in the last of the Glastonbury sunshine. Since they signed to a major label for their forthcoming album, The Clearing, the styling, sound and energy of the band has had a leg up.

Has frontwoman Ellie Rowsell’s been having lessons in frontwomaning? She’s electric as she strikes a pose with a megaphone, belts out the rockier songs like she’s furious at you specifically and even as she takes a tearful second during 2021 fave “How Can I Make It Ok?” to process the size of the crowd (massive) and the moment (huge).

Wolf Alice shine on their ballads – the rockier songs come with a lot of energy but they lack something the slower ones effortlessly have. But the band clearly understood the Glastonbury assignment and delivered a set brimming with star power.
