A 91st minute goal from Mirjam Kastelec has denied the Matildas a second straight victory against Slovenia in Perth, with the friendly ending in a 1-1 draw.
New coach Joe Montemurro remains unbeaten at the helm of the national team from two matches in charge, but would have been disappointed with conceding an equaliser so late.
Michelle Heyman scored the Matilda’s lone goal five minutes after half time with an excellent volley after Ellie Carpenter floated a lovely ball to the striker.

But Heyman’s finish was cancelled out in stoppage time as Naja Poje Mihelič’s shot bounced off the post and back into the path of fellow substitute Kastelec, who beat the Matildas defenders in the race to slide for the rebound first.
The result followed a 3-0 victory in the first outing of the Montemurro era, with the Matildas affording their opponents with less opportunities on this occasion despite conceding a goal.

The former Lyon boss prefers a more possession based approach and the team appeared to make a smoother transition in style this time around despite making six changes to the starting XI.
The Matildas’ build-up play was cleaner, although they lacked the composure required in the attacking third to score multiple goals.
Charlie Grant almost gave the hosts a second in the 70th minute but some desperation from the Slovenians cleared her shot off the line.
Twenty minutes later, goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold made a superb save in the dying moments but was left helpless by the ricochet soon after.
The Matildas will next play Panama on July 5 and 8, but stars Carpenter, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Alanna Kennedy are among eight players who will all depart the squad, forcing Montemurro to try out some new names in Western Australia.
