  1. It’s a bit early for 46 in southern Spain. I would expect that in July or something.

42 or so was my limit when I visited

  2. Went out in the morning at 7.30am with 26C, climbed up to 44C.
Just mad, glad we have some beaches and i have A/C at home. Very high temp and dry

  3. And the tourists are there en masse already. I’ll never understand the appeal of a European summer holiday when the colder months are so much quieter and more pleasant. As a bonus you don’t have to deal with locals and other tourists driven to distraction by the heat.

  4. Rich people: “just get an AC installed”

Marie Antoinette: ‘Just let them eat cake”.

  5. Give some of the heat to the Baltics already, we had a really cold May and June.

  6. Fucking BBC News thinks 46 degrees is people in a park with water sprays.

    like it’s that innocent.

If you can’t keep your body temp at 37C, it’s like having a fever at first. You hallucinate, your mind starts dreaming.

During 40+ heatwaves, public transport has to shut down, work needs to stop, we need to quarantine and get to safe areas, everyone needs to seek refuge. it’s a real health crisis.

  7. Yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in Portugal in June (45.4°) the record lasted one day, today was even hotter. (46.6°). Probably still unofficial numbers, but those are from official stations, not from my car (which was showing 50° today, btw)

  8. 46C is 114.8F. That is Death Valley temp (though not at its highest, but more than today at 107F). There is a reason why it is called the “Death” Valley.

Time to invest in the AC and back-up power business. You can’t ask for a better business model. More warming. More AC blasting. More emissions. More warming.

  9. As someone from Australia: oof that sucks. I hope you lot get relief soon

  10. It’s too bad the rain in Spain is mainly on the plains.

  11. Each year records are being broken for heat. It’s scary.

  12. on vacation in Sevilla right now, after living in Miami the last 5 years can confidently say this is the fucking worst

  13. As a survivor of the 2021 west coast heat wave, I’m glad more and more people are experiencing this faster. Once you feel that level of heat above what is normal, you become an advocate for drastic climate action.

  14. After the 49.5C fire that destroyed Lytton, Canada, I’ve become convinced that if your city hits 45C, it will eventually be destroyed by fire.

Maybe not this year, but it’s only a matter of time at this point. Probably in your lifetime.

  15. That’s scary temps. Here in Ireland its low 20s but I reckon a few days of 30+ would start killing people because our average humidity is like 85% so sweating doesn’t really work as intended.

Ive got a 24 litre dehumidifier, for the last 3-4 days its been filling up 2-3 times a day and still can’t get humidity below 61% when I’ve set it to 51%.

  16. I was in the Valley of the Kings in the 00s, and I remember it was 50C in the shade. Several people had to be rushed to hospital on this particular day because they were severely dehydrated and losing consciousness. There was plenty water, they just got caught outside for too long, climbing steps and overheating without realizing they were putting their bodies under strain beyond our physical tolerances.

These temps are no joke, especially when you reach wet bulb temps, it’s deadly.

  17. I used to melt agar in the lab at like 50C to make cell culture plates. The same agar that goes in gummy candy. This is just 4 degrees lower.

  18. Suddenly, a bunch of Spaniards spraying me with water guns doesn’t sound so bad.

  19. 40 what now!? I pray that these temperatures don’t reach the UK otherwise I would have to live in Tesco for a few days.

  20. As ‘liberal hoaxes’ go, climate change is pretty convincing!

  21. But people said thats not even that much warmer than usual, they had this kinda wheater 30ish years ago too, so its normal that temperatures are rising /s

  22. And I’m incapable of functioning outside in 26 degrees, feels like Im standing on the surface of the sun. 46 is not Earth to me 🙁

  23. It 115 American degrees to keep you from googling—I did the legwork for you. See you again in the comments about meters and kilometers.

  24. I live in the coldest Spanish region, and I’m melting. Also, got a cold/weird cough or something that is proving to be pretty hard to remove. Hate fucking summer, sorry.
