Hello everyone! I apologize in advance if the question was asked many times before. I'm (non-eu citizen with family reunification visa) joining my wife (German, living in Traunstein, Bavaria) in August and I'm very stressed about my first steps to before I get residence permit. One of them is health insurance. I obviously have a health insurance for the duration of my visa but do I have to obtain a public insurance before applying for residence permit, e.g. joining my wife's insurance first and only then completing the application for residence permit? If so, how can it be done efficiently, given the limit of 90 days I got.

I thought, the only mandatory thing one needs to do once arriving to Germany is to get Anmeldung before applying to Ausländerbehörde but the more I read the more complex it gets.

Thank you in advance! I would really appreciate the advices from expats who joined their spouses ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔ

  1. Incoming Versicherung are made for this. They’re not expensive but cover you in case of emergency. There is also the expat Versicherung that costs more but offers more coverage.
