NHS chiefs call for return of masks and limits on indoor mixing

  1. Smart.

But the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask in shops and public transport is too much of a sacrifice for a lot of people. I doubt it’ll happen.

  2. But the BBC reports

The number of people in the UK infected with coronavirus is falling, says the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Can’t see anything happening now to be honest unless morality rates were hugely affected.

What needs to happen is pressure on the government to sort out the NHS out of the crisis it’s ended up in (irrespective of Covid) over the past decade.

  3. Weird timing when the ONS data shows cases are starting to fall.

Also limits on social mixing is a non starter without financial support and furlough coming back. Fat chance if that in the middle of the current cost of living issues

  4. Honestly before doing that I’d do more to get sick people to stay away from people. Bring back self-isolating, strengthen sick pay, bring back testing (maybe a cap on the price? Free to people in X circumstances? Free to people willing to hoop jump for it? Not sure, kinda open on that bit).

  5. Can you imagine the hilarity of Boris asking us to comply… the moron might even try it given he’s got the empathy of a fucking housebrick

  6. They need to fix the ventilation in the pubs and restaurants. Exchange the inside air with outside air so that the virus can’t become concentrated. A nose only mask would be nice so you can eat while still breathing filtered air.

  7. One day it’s get the vaccine and the next it’s we need more measures because the vaccine doesn’t work.

    Make your mind up.

  8. Just reading that article, does anyone seriously believe they’re going to “deliver 50,000 more nurses by 2024.” Something tells me the number will be A LOT lower than that.

  9. Nah fuck that, I complied with everything, got my three jabs, but enough is enough. Thoroughly sick of the whole thing.

  10. Are things getting worse then? Where I live down south COVID is barely talked about. In the past two months I’ve heard of one person getting it.

  11. Might actually get a decent summer.

    Let’s ruin everyone’s lives again

No – I’m done with it.

And yes it may be “selfish” bur I’ve done this for 2 years already fuck off.

  12. I was as pro mask and lockdown etc as anyone else, but now , with the state of the world, war, climate, cost of living…. Fuck it.

(Hate feeling like that but can’t really help it…and I think lots of others feel the same)

  13. On one hand I’ve never seen more cases than now. Except a month ago. Personally I’d never known more than one person with an active case until 2 months ago. It’s been devastating at work. Everyone has recovered but we’re all vaccinated. I had it worse than most and it definitely had a bit of an interaction with my athsma. Fortunately I’m about as robust as an accountant is going to get. Except the ones who are in their 20s I guess, though someone in our office is running 10 miles every day right now.

Vaccines help, they stop us dying but they aren’t stopping the spread. I think what we probably need to do going forward is have the controls in place during winter when the NHS is under most strain (and realistically not too draconian before christmas because people won’t comply and if everyone is depressed and miserable that will have ramifications too) and roll them back during summer when people will go outdoors and ventilate more, plus a lot of viruses just transmit less. If there’s going to be a long term strategy that’s it. Abandoning the restrictions in January was foolish.

Masks in supermarkets isn’t a big ask, remote working where possible for 2 months isn’t a big ask, even vaccines aren’t a huge ask. Giving up our social lives forever is.

  14. Although this would work to lower cases and hospital admissions (and therefore the burden on our healthcare system) it’s not a sustainable one.

Covid is here to stay now and just like the flu and norovirus it will keep rearing it’s ugly head each year – we have to accept it as part of life.

We can’t just put in place social restrictions every 6/12 months to deal with it

  15. When does it end? If 3 doses of vaccine isn’t enough to curtail requests for authoritarian measures, what is? I don’t wanna spend the rest of my life getting fined for spending time with my family.
