There was an upgrade from the usual pigeons on my balcony this morning. But I’m concerned it was previously a pet, as I’ve never seen one of these out in London. And it seems more intrigued by me than scared of me. Any thoughts?

Don’t think it would be lost tbf, might just fly back to the owners house
I’m not a bird expert but I do know that there is a feral community of parakeets in London but as far as I know (having seen dozens in SW London) they are green… you can get yellow parakeets though so maybe it’s one of the feral gang
Looks like a canary, so yes, probably a lost pet.
He thinks your balcony is his cage…
It’s a canary, so almost certainly. Is it ringed…?
leave it some water out today for sure. I imagine it wont last long in the wilds of London if it is a lost pet but you could see if it will eat some birdseed (if it comes back). Poor little guy.
My father kept canaries if memory serves me right this is called a roller canary .. 50 years ago so my mind is a bit fussy
Trying to find his way back to Canary Wharf
Have you tried asking the nearest coal mine?
Aww Can you put a dish of water out and some food?
r/canaries maybe helpful with suggestions?
Yes, yours if you’re quick enough
Disconcerting to find another redditor lives in my building 🙂

This was an unfortunate pairing…
No, it just like your home.
…get on the blower to the coal mine, QUICK!!
Escaped pet.
Intentionally released because their summer holidays are coming up and they cant be bothered to pay someone to look after it.
Either way its highly unlikely to survive in the wild for long.
If it suddenly dies, gtfo of London.
Maybe provide it some shade too because it’s going to be way too hot in London today.
It could be but I also have a neighbor on my block who has birds like this as pets (a couple canaries and another very social bird in other colors). They fly free in the day and come home in the evening to have their dinner and sleep in their cages.
