King Charles and Queen Camilla are set for a big royal event tomorrow – on the same day the Duchess of Sussex is to launch a new product with her lifestyle brand. Their Majesties will attend the traditional Ceremony of the Keys on Tuesday at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The event on July 1 will mark the start of Royal Week, which sees the monarch, 76, and Camilla, 77, spend a few days each year in Scotland. The aim of the week is for Their Majesties to meet Scottish people and recognise them for their good work. The Ceremony of the Keys will kick off the Royal Week tomorrow, and will see the King being formally welcomed into the city of Edinburgh by the Lord Provost, who offers the key of the city to His Majesty.
The key is handed to the King along with a pledge of the city’s loyalty, with the key then handed back for safekeeping.
A parade is then held in the Palace grounds to mark the historic occasion, with the tradition of Royal Week having been started by Queen Victoria.
This year’s ceremony will be the third one King Charles has experienced as monarch, having taken part in 2023 and 2024.
In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II attended her last Ceremony of the Keys, and was all smiles throughout despite experiencing some mobility issues.
