A key component of this trade is brewing malt, with Ireland exporting 33,000 tonnes of the grain to Nigeria, a vital input in Nigeria’s beverage industry.
“There’s huge opportunities with Nigeria, first and foremost, it’s such an economic powerhouse,” says Neale Richmond, Ireland’s Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, to FORBES AFRICA. “We have a very strong embassy in Abuja, but obviously very key trading links with Lagos, massive Nigeria population here in Ireland, has been for a long time, massive Irish interest in Nigeria, increasing economic opportunities to West Africa.”
