Requisitioned by the War Office as part of the D-Day preparations, but then never relinquished. It’s a stone’s throw from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
“Ravenser Odd” i dont know if this count tho but i like the story of a sunken village lost to time. would love to see the ruined left but thats not happing any time in my life time lol
Thanks for the interesting rabbit trail this got me on! I am going to go visit Wharram Percy now.
I don’t know of any. Or that they were a thing. But I do now and am loving the rabbit holes it’s taking me down.
i havent been to any of them, but i like the medieval ones
Clicket near Timberscombe in Somerset. Very small!
Zennor in Cornwall is amazing. The Mermaid chair in St Senara’s church, the brilliant turquoise waves crashing against the dark cliffs. The vivid greenery and purple heather. The fragrance of the honeysuckle.
It has a population of 200 today but at its peak in the 1800s, its population was over 1000.
So, not strictly an abandoned village…. but def a semi-abandoned one imo. I can’t think of any that are true ghost towns.
