  1. In the prime Star Trek timeline, there was literal subjugation and war in the 1990s, and the problems lasted until First Contact with the Vulcans in 2063… in his reality, the history in this era was far worse.

    Not saying things aren’t bad now, and I’m not saying he’s wrong, but in-universe, Kirk knew Earth’s history, and lives in a time about 100 years after First Contact, an unbelievable time of peace on Earth, only brought about after the worst period in human history.

We have to many competitive, shallow, prideful traits or desires that it’s hard to believe you could ever get rid of those. Even people like say Shatner who talk about the world like this are probably also one of the most incredibly greedy people you could know.

  29. Technically in the 2020s of Star Trek we would be in WW3 where the genetically engineered humans rebelled and shot nukes everywhere killing 30 million. So in comparison we are doing a bit better.

  34. I mean the premise of Star Trek is utopia brought about by no wars and one world government. A thing a lot of people, including the side I’m pretty sure shatner claims, speak out against and claim is an evil “new world order”. So like there’s a lot the entire galaxy of Star Trek would be let down by.

  36. Captain Kirk would say the state of the Earth’s decline was part of pre a Federation world and we are on track according to Trek history and timeline; Just about to hit WWIII. Hopefully this decline will “Mirror” Star Trek’s and we will one day give birth to a Star Trek world that Kirk would be proud of. We too will make 1st contact and it will shift our trajectory.
