Although it is illegal to enter, other piles are often not supervised at all. If you want to go there, be aware of the dangers, such as: Toxic fumes from the cracks (the pile heats up under pressure and burns from the inside, from the very bottom). Do not go near the edge, it can be unstable. Of course, not all piles burn, some have even been turned into parks. But still be careful when visiting, because there are also other people there who may want to hurt you, drug addicts, etc. It is rare, but it can still happen.

  1. There are couple of those nearby. You can actually see the one located in Pszów from Szarlota, I think that the next closest one is in Radlin. If I’m not mistaken all of them are burning. Living next to those can be challenging. Efforts to fight the fires got mixed results from what I can see. Sometimes it requires a lot of excavation in dangerous conditions. I hope that at some point we can reclaim all of them.

Edit. Actually isn’t one of the photos taken from the one in Pszów? I think it is.

  2. I wonder if the temperature from inside could be used for heating water, for ppl living nearby. That could ba an utapped potential!
