Dead African refugee found in Verkhnedvinsk District on border with Latvia

On June 27th, Belarusian border guards came across the dead African refugee in the Verkhnedvinsk District near the Latvian fence, sb.by reports citing the Telegram channel of Belarus’ State Border Committee

An investigative task force was working at the scene to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

The Belarusian border agency noted that since early 2025, this is the ninth death on the Belarusian-Latvian section of the border. The previous one occurred on May 21st.

“Since 2021, the total number of dead refugees on the border of Belarus with the European Union has reached 75 people,” the State Border Committee informed.
