  1. AMC Theatres is making it easier for moviegoers to know the actual start time of their film screening and avoid sitting through lengthy ads. A new notice has started appearing when people purchase tickets via the AMC website, warning that “movies start 25-30 minutes after showtime.”

This already mirrors the estimated runtime of AMC’s preshow content, which includes ads and trailers, but now customers will be better informed if they want to arrive a little later without missing the start of their movie. This small change also tracks with a report made by The Hollywood Reporter last week that said AMC will soon start “addressing the preshow on its ticketing platforms.”

  2. This is ridiculous and totally unnecessary.

Audience already have trouble to be patient with long films and now this…

  3. This is why I stopped going to the theater unless its a huge tentpole action movie. I don’t pay $20 to watch 30 minutes of commercials.

  4. Thank god for my local theater. No ads, 3-4 trailers. It’s amazing. And cheap.

  5. It was almost 30 exactly when I saw 28 Years Later. I enjoy trailers, which is why I arrive on time, but I totally get it if you don’t.

  6. The intro at clueless last night where they teased the 30 min commercials then ended with “as if” was classic

  7. UK here… this has been the norm for a long time here. About 30 mins of ads and trailers before every film.

  8. This is why I’ve started adding about 20 minutes onto the reported start times before I show up.

  9. “People aren’t coming to theatres like they used too. How can we fix this?”

    “More ads”

  10. I go to an AMC that’s a 15-20 minute drive from me. Ever since I got A-list I leave the house at whatever the posted showtime is for the movie. I always get there with time to spare, which I use by sitting in my car for a couple of minutes before heading in. I haven’t missed anything yet.

  11. Movie goers are now warning AMC they might not be going to movies anymore

  12. Go ahead, shoot yourselves in the foot. Theater attendance is already down, go ahead and make the experience less enjoyable. Let’s see what happens

  13. One positive I can take away from this is that there is no rush to go to the theater on time especially if you live 5-10 minutes away. My local Regal has that length of previews.

    Cinemark is decently long enough.

  14. Regal and AMC legit need to get a grip…if you want to know why people are coming to theaters here are a small (not fully inclusive) list of reasons:
    – imposing convenience fees for buying tickets online (the convenience is on YOUR part since you can *conveniently* not hire ticket booth staff…)
    – trailers and ads that last as long as or longer than 25% of the movie
    – disgusting theaters due to lack of cleaning or proper maintenance/repairs
    – not monitoring theaters for loud talkers or disrupters

Anyone else have any additional items to add?

  15. Ill wait til i can download movies then. I have a pretty big tv

  16. NYC it’s been 30 minutes for many years. MANY years. Since seats are assigned, people now show up 20-30 minutes after the scheduled start.

  17. Saw the new Mission Impossible a few weeks ago and a movie scheduled to start at 9:30 didn’t actually start until 9:57.

  18. If this is the case then they should make tickets cheaper

  19. This is actually helpful. I don’t have to rush to the theater.

  20. It’s been this way a while at AMC, and honestly it’s whatever. I have my A-list which makes it massively convenient and extremely affordable to see as many movies as I want.

  21. As a society, when in gods name are we going to start pushing back on ads?

It’s ruined the internet, it’s made Youtube hateful and the pressure to get results makes ads more and more outrageous. I get the business model, but we pay for those ads as they are embedded in the price we pay for goods.

Since the ads come out of our pockets, why can’t we have a voice in how much of our lives are allowed to be disrupted with the constant barrage of marketing?

  22. Fuck that, I’m good renting it at home. Or maybe I’ll just read and say fuck you to the whole industry

  23. Movie goers now warns AMC to expect less seats filled of said movie goers…

    See how that works?

  24. And AMC can expect to never see me in theatres any longer.
