DR Congo and Rwanda to sing a US-brokered deal • FRANCE 24 English
tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda date back to the 1994 Rwanda genocide an estimated 800,000 people mostly from the Tootszie community were killed by Hoou extremists since then there have been outbreaks of fighting between different ethnic armed groups despite multiple peace accords the conflict was again brought to the four at the beginning of this year when a rebel group known as the M23 captured swaves of territory in eastern DRC according to UN experts Rwanda supports the M23 with troops and ammunition though Kaggali insists otherwise the group’s first major advance was at the end of January with the taking of GMA the city in the north Kivu province is a vital transport hub within reach of mining towns which supply critical minerals and metals kinshasa and multiple UN reports have accused Rwanda of using the conflict as a way of looting congalles minerals one report last December said around 120 tons of colton was being sent by the M23 to Rwanda every 4 weeks kaggali has consistently denied the accusations the latest fighting in East India has killed thousands and worsened one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises the country counts 7 million displaced people including 3.8 million in North and South Ku provinces several regional and global actors have been involved in mediation efforts though peace has been elusive there’s hope however that the accord announced by the United States covering the pillars of security and economic cooperation will stick the deal commits Kaggali and Kinshasa to ending support for armed groups but some worry about how it will translate on the ground especially as the M23 rebels have suggested the agreement won’t be binding on them
The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are set to sign a peace deal facilitated by the U.S. to help end the decadeslong deadly fighting in eastern Congo. The deal, to be signed in Washington Friday, would also help the U.S. government and American companies gain access to critical minerals in the conflict-battered, mineral-rich region. Carys Garland tells su more.

There is no Rwandan genocide it is tutsi genocide
Uhm, isn't "sign" originally a French word?! How TF can't a French news channel spell it correctly?! How illiterate are your employees?! Wtf?!
SING a deal? Hope they release it on Spotify.
Sing?
I found the idea of singing a deal very intriguing, imagine that! 🎶
In that form it could help include the public and educate them of something they would probably never read themselves. It could be broadcast via radio. Musicians would know how to make it happen 😊
Countries to “sign” or to “swing”, perhaps?
Those tutsis brought killings in DRC
If this didnt land trump Nobel Prize than I fear that it will become an empty award just like FIFA ballon d or
*sign
For those confused here are the lyrics for the song:
From the hills of Kigali to the heart of Kinshasa,
Two nations stood apart, weighed down by the past.
But today they reach across, with hopeful hands at last,
To silence all the guns, let peace begin to cast.
⸻
Oh Rwanda, oh Congo, let your rivers run clear,
No more tears from the mothers, only songs we will hear.
With a handshake and promise, under skies so wide,
Together for tomorrow, walking side by side.
⸻
A broker from afar brought the message of peace,
Now children laugh again where once the songs did cease.
Drums echo unity, hearts beat in time,
Planting seeds of tomorrow in rich African clime.
⸻
Oh Rwanda, oh Congo, let your rivers run clear,
No more tears from the mothers, only songs we will hear.
With a handshake and promise, under skies so wide,
Together for tomorrow, walking side by side.
please spell check
This agreement is little more than a meaningless piece of paper. How can anyone explain the absence of an M23 militia representative at the conference, while Rwanda’s foreign minister is front and center? Isn’t that, in itself, a tacit admission of Rwanda’s continued backing of an armed rebellion on Congolese soil—a blatant violation of international law?
If the key perpetrator is absent, how can we even pretend this is a real peace process? And what does it say about the Congolese government’s participation? How can a regime that claims to defend its people sign onto a deal that clearly reinforces foreign interference? Isn’t that just complicity—an open collaboration with those who loot the country and fuel endless conflict?
Let’s call this what it is: political theater. It’s a staged performance meant to clean up the image of regional players deeply involved in the chaos, and to give a diplomatic veneer to an arrangement born out of violence and power plays. The real winner here is the Trump administration. This agreement helps secure a backroom understanding: protection for the Congolese regime in return for privileged access to the country’s natural resources.
Best president ever.
The wrong spelling for me says a lot…
Sing huh
Trump is awesome and a great leader, not what the legacy fake media portrays him to be. Thank you Pres Trump. 🙏❤🇺🇸✝
Everyone ignoring these conflicts. They only talk about Ukraine and Gaza!
This is just a mineral deal for Trump,
AFRICA NEEDS ORDER AND PEACE! THANKS TRUMP! AT LEAST ITS A START LETS STOP THE WARLORDS
