Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos‘ wedding may have been inspired by Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s nuptials.
The billionaire couple and royal couple seem to share the same taste in music. PEOPLE confirmed that Ellie Goulding performed at Sánchez and Bezos’ wedding reception on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, Italy, on June 27. Fourteen years earlier on April 29, 2011, she sang at the Prince and Princess of Wales’ second smaller wedding reception, which was hosted by the groom’s father, King Charles, in the Throne Room of Buckingham Palace in London, England.
Goulding serenaded the royal newlyweds for their first dance with her version of “Your Song,” originally written by Elton John, a close friend of the late Princess Diana.

“Performing the first dance of the night, ‘Your Song,’ was nerve-wracking,” Goulding told the Daily Mail in 2012. “But William and Kate were very appreciative. They are an awesome couple and told me how much they enjoyed it. My band and I stayed at the reception all night, and it’s something I’ll treasure forever.”
She and her band then performed several more selections, including her hit “Starry Eyed” and a cover version of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers — another one of William and Kate’s favorites, according to royal biographer Robert Jobson’s book Catherine, the Princess of Wales.
Goulding reunited with the couple in December 2022 when she performed at William’s Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony in Boston.
The British songstress replicated her live rendition of “Your Song” at Sánchez and Bezos’ star-studded wedding reception.
PEOPLE previously confirmed that Andrea Bocelli’s son, Matteo Bocelli, sang at the ceremony.
Sánchez and Bezos’ wedding was previously compared to Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ extravagant wedding on July 29, 1981, which was hailed as the “wedding of the century.”
“I think it’s gonna be like a Princess Di thing,” Sánchez’s older brother, Paul, predicted to TMZ in March. “It’s gonna be an amazing event. It’s gonna be star-studded and fun.”

Sánchez and Bezos’ glamorous multi-day wedding was celebrated by several of their celebrity friends, who all flew out to Venice for the festivities. A few A-listers who were in attendance include: Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Orlando Bloom, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher and Tom Brady.
Other notable guests included Queen Rania of Jordan, Bill Gates and his girlfriend, Paula Hurd, François-Henri Pinault, and fashion designers Diane von Fürstenberg, Domenico Dolce and Tommy Hilfiger.
Just hours after the ceremony, Sánchez officially confirmed her marriage on Instagram by adding “Bezos” to her name, and shared several photos of her custom wedding dress and black-tie ceremony.
Sánchez, 55, and Bezos, 61, stepped out for the first time as newlyweds on June 28. The pair left the Aman Hotel before stepping into an awaiting water taxi to visit Harry’s Bar for a casual lunch. The iconic spot was closed to the public for the couple’s post-wedding lunch, so the two could enjoy their special meal in private.
