Putin wants to “own the libs” and feels they are hypocrites for being shocked at atrocities, because, after all, didn’t the USA do bad stuff in Iraq? For Putin, whataboutism seems to more than a bad-faith tactic, rather, it seems to be how he really sees the world.

There’s no evidence that Russian soldiers lined up and shot civilians in Bucha. All those civilians were wearing white arm bands. Russian forces were in Bucha for a month and not a single video from civilians showed any attrocities there. When they left, 4 days later, Ukranian forces moved in, shelling and engaging anyone with white arm bands on their hands.
