I know it rains alot but heat doesn’t reach dangerous temperatures here and plenty of growth for crops grass and gardens so yes we’re pretty lucky with our climate.
At least it’s uniformly bad.
Yes
For now
Yes – we hate it but really it’s mild and rarely dangerous, and well suited to food production
Lough neagh green algae is getting out of hand.
I’ve always maintained that Ireland, in particular the east coast of Ireland is the most benign environment in the universe
Would not pick another climate to live in. Visit yea, but I am built for this county.
I’m sorry but can we please resume back to shitting on itrland, this positivity is unsettling
Living in Spain, I can attest that Ireland has the better climate.
Yes I heard many scientists say we will fair better than all the other countries. It will be warmer and wetter and we’re seeing that already but nothing as extreme as other countries.
Obviously not. For most of the year we’re not even able to properly live outside in the country. We exist in our homes and the pub and our cars.
Not to mention how dark it gets
As my cousin is being cooked alive in Spain as I type this, I’m going to say yes.
As someone currently living in a big city in a very hot and humid Asian country, very much yes. I miss the climate in Ireland. Yeah, it might rain quite a lot, but it also rains like f*ck here, whereas in Ireland it’s rarely so heavy, and tbh, the rain is a feckin relief sometimes.
I have to use AC all the time. It’s difficult to go out during the day if it’s not raining (and if it is). Riding a motorbike with proper gear on would give you heatstroke, so you have to chance it in just a helmet and a t-shirt and shorts. I’m just not built for it, but I need to be here for business.
Gonna retire in Ireland for sure…
Should we do something about the collapsing AMOC, or continue trusting the luck?
Yes, for the moment, though that’s subject to change as the planet warms or if the AMOC shuts down.
It also might not necessarily be the best position to be in during the coming decades. If you think migration is a challenge today, well, we haven’t seen anything yet. And while we’re “lucky” in a geopolitical sense that we don’t have significant quantities of any particularly valuable natural resources in today’s market that might make us an attractive target, once a mild climate with fresh water and arable land becomes more valuable than petroleum and rare earth minerals, well, there are going to be a lot of hungry and thirsty eyes looking in our direction…
It’s perfect. We do not get bullshit weather.
Summers range from warm to hot but not dangerous 35+ degrees scalding.
Winters range from mild to cold but not stupid -10 degrees arctic nonsense.
Everything in between is a bit mild, wet and easily manageable.
Problem with Ireland is the short days in the winter. The weather’s fine .
Why is it then that giving out about the weather is the national sport in Ireland? 😂
No, the weather is trash. There’s basically no seasons.
No dangerous flora or fauna really either.
i know we love moan about the rain and the mostly shite weather we have in the summer but in the grand scheme of things unironically we have the best climate on the planet because of how sheltered we are from really dangerous weather stuff we don’t have any really dangerous natural disasters that kill tons of people and cause a shit of damage
hot wise we have never even reached 34C and our hottest day record was set 138 years ago for reference only 3 places has a lower record hottest day * 33.3 C and that’s Iceland Greeland Antartica
Cold wise its incredibly rare to dip below -5 C
we get enough rain for crops
overall we are really really blessed to have this climate and in the future there will be A LOT of European Climate Migration to Ireland
If you consider that we’re at the same lattitude as Newfoundland, then kinda, yeah.
Historically no, it was difficult for us to grow most staple crops here (except in the southwest), which meant ireland remained semi pastoral for a lot longer than the rest of Europe. Probably held back our development and prevented state formation until the English came in for easy pickings.
This is one of the reasons the potato was so popular btw- it grows in wet conditions so allowed Irish agriculture to boom.
Yep, that’s why we have to take vitamin D.
It’s damp all the time.
Ah, for dairy farming maybe. For human flourishing, not so much.
Looks like rain, Ted
Big high five’s for the North Atlantic Current!
I remember showing this map in a presentation and no one noticed the dark green bits.
Someone said afterwards they thought there was dust on the screen
Absolutely love the climate.

If you’re referring to climate change there will be no winners at all 🙄
-19.1 vs -16
and
33.3 vs 30.5 (Iceland)
It means there’s no predators to hunt us!
Ireland has the dubious distinction of having a more degraded natural ecosystem than the UK with even fewer patches of its temperate rainforest (a very rare biome btw) than England, Scotland and Wales.
Temperate rainforest (cool temperate) is about 2% of the forests globally and other than the UK is present in the Alaskan Panhandle, British Columbia, Sakhalin and Hokkaido, Southern Chile and Argentina, Tasmania and South Island NZ.
Yes we did.
It’s fierce mild, fierce mild.
So much shite talked in that thread, jaysus.
One thing I don’t like is the constant overcast weather for most of the year. I can take the cold and the rain but just a normal day is overcast…
Yes. Mild winters, mild summers. If only there were less gray days, but that’s not the worst.
No
We won a €2 all cash on the climate lotto. Our damp climate is awful and has me feeling like shite for half the year, summer is good but other than that it’s shite
I just wish it got colder in the winter and we had more snow

Yes. Climate-wise Ireland is very fortunate.
