We just moved to a new apartment and it has a boiler for heating the water. Currently we are getting no hot water and opening the boiler flaps seems to give the error F.22 and the needle of the pressure gauge is below 0.

How can we repressurize it? I gather I have to turn one of the valves but I'm not sure which one. Super cautious as to not damage/break something.

  1. don’t touch anything if you don’t know what to do. ask your landlord.

  2. Ask the landlord but in general it is very easy.

You unplug that valve on the horizontal pipe under the boiler, you plug there a water hose, and plug the other end to your kitchen sink. Then open the valves so that water flows into the boiler.

Do this until pressure is 1-1.5bar and done.

Your Hausverwaltung will probably do it, but it’s so simple I don’t bother them with this. Maybe do bother them the first time.

I think the hose that fit mine was called smth like “high pressure, hot water hose”. It’s a yellow one. You will need a fitting adapter to plug it to your kitchen sink.

    Edit:
OP, the hose is probably this one

  3. Do not touch the boiler, do not attempt to fix this.

The boiler is not your property! You need to call the landlord who will send a maintenance guy.

  4. As the others say: Ask your landlord. He/She will show you which valves you have to use.

  5. You should contact a landlord, that is emergency failure and he have to solve it in 24 Hours, after that you can maybe ask for rent reduction for that month if not solved fast.

  6. It’s pretty normal that pressure goes down once in a while. It’s an easy fix with the right hose and if you know what to do. Call your landlord and when the person arrives to fill it up with water, let them show you how it’s done.

You will want to know when it’s winter and the heating is down because of this.

Actually, it is recommended to check the pressure periodically to prevent the boiler from turning off because of pressure loss.

If you don’t want to call the landlord you might ask a savvy neighbour to show you.

These boilers need to be maintained once a year. Depending on contract, you might have to pay for that, but it’s obligatory. Has someone checked it recently? If not, ask your landlord about maintenance (Wartung). The best time to do it is usually September/October before the heating period starts. But if it’s been a while you can do it now too.

  7. That pressure gauge isn’t for hot water in you Mr shower. It’s for the heating circulation. But the error turns the burner off so you have no hot water either. Call your landlord. They will want to know that their stuff is broken. Should be an easy fix. But not your problem. Luckily the weather is hot 😉

  8. F. 22 is persistent delusional disorder.

You sure the thing is not working? Might just be in your head.
