European leaders are expected in Chisinau on Friday for the first bilateral Summit between Moldova and the European Union, which will take place at the State Residence. Among the main topics of the event are the country’s EU accession process, European support in the context of the war in Ukraine, as well as the implementation of the Growth Plan for Moldova, reports IPN.
The event is organized under the auspices of President Maia Sandu and, according to the presidential institution, reflects the firm commitment of the authorities in Chisinau to the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
On behalf of the Republic of Moldova, the summit will be attended by the Head of State, the President of the Parliament Igor Grosu, and the Prime Minister Dorin Recean. On behalf of the European Union, the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will participate.
“The discussions within the summit will focus on essential subjects for the future of the Republic of Moldova and its partnership with the European Union. Among the main topics are our country’s accession process to the EU, European support in the context of the war in Ukraine, as well as the implementation of the Growth Plan for Moldova”, is stated in a press release.
Additionally, the discussion will cover the strengthening of trade relations, cooperation in the field of security and defense, energy transition, digital transformation, and facilitating contacts between citizens.
The summit will begin at 17:00 and is expected to conclude around 20:00.
