The bulk of export shipments dispatched by Peru LNG in the first half of 2025 went to Asia, data from hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro shows.
Of the 38 shipments (bills of lading) that left the liquefaction operator’s Pampa Melchorita complex, 26 went to the Far East and 12 went to Europe.
South Korea led deliveries to Asia with 12 shipments, followed by China (6), Japan and Singapore (3 each), and Taiwan (2).
The Europe-bound shipments went to Spain (8), and France and the Netherlands (2 each).
According to a study commissioned by the Asia Natural Gas and Energy Association (ANGEA), Wood Mackenzie forecasts that Asia’s LNG demand will grow to 510Mt in 2050 from 270Mt in 2024.
ANGEA’s head, Paul Everingham said, “Asia wants to use much more gas so that it can use much less coal while continuing sensible and well-planned growth in renewable energy. Lacking the regional gas resources to make this happen, LNG imports are the only way it will be possible.”
In 2024, Asia accounted for 69% of the world’s LNG imports, followed by Europe (24%), the Americas (14.8%) and Middle East and Africa (11.3%), according to the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL).
Shell International Trading Middle East is responsible for buying, transporting and selling Peru LNG.
Melchorita is some 180km south of Lima and also dispatches LNG in tanker trucks to local natural gas distributors Gases del Pacífico (Quavii) and Petroperú.
