Kate Middleton and Prince William might follow the royal traditions when it comes to their sleeping arrangement. The Prince and Princess of Wales each have a bedroom at Kensington Palace. Whether they sleep separately or together is anyone’s guess, with many reports suggesting both possibilities.

Last year, reports suggested that Middleton and William are comfortable sleeping in a single bed. When the Prince of Wales visited the Duchy College Stoke Climsland in Callington, Cornwall, he spoke to a dog owner for a few minutes. This person, Louise Harland, later told Hits Radio Cornwall (via Hello! Magazine):

[William] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate.

Being a dog lover, William absolutely loved the time with Harland’s Cockerjack named Jack. However, the more important thing to note here was how he said that he and Middleton slept together, with a dog to cuddle with in their bed. The royal couple loves their dog, Orla, who was a present from Middleton’s brother, James, in 2020.

While it is the latest report on their sleeping arrangement, earlier reports have strongly suggested that they have separate beds (via Hello! Magazine). It was reported that they kept their beds separate to benefit the health of the Princess of Wales. When the couple visited an army training centre in Pirbright, Surrey, one of their conversations centered on Middleton’s “lack of sleep”.

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s bedroom arrangement at Kensington Palace is a bit unique from the other royals. They reside in Apartment 1A at the palace. An apartment, in this context, refers to beautiful red brick houses, which are joined with each other but function as separate houses (via Marie Claire).

These apartments are built around the three courtyards in the palace. Apartment 1A has 20 rooms from its basement to the attic. It also has a walled garden, five reception rooms, nine staff bedrooms, drawing rooms, luggage rooms, a gym, and an elevator.

The royals usually sleep on one of the upper floors in their respective apartments. However, Middleton and William’s arrangement is a little different as their bedrooms are on the ground floor of the apartment. The rooms on the higher floors are reserved for the staff. There isn’t a specified reason provided as to why they opted to do so.

Orla has made appearances with the family on several social media posts, including the video where Middleton announced the completion of her chemotherapy. She was a gift from Middleton’s brother, James, in 2020. They got Orla after their previous dog, Lupo, passed away the same year.

The royal couple wrote on Instagram at the time, “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much.” Orla is the pup of James’ dog Luna.

According to The Sun, the black cocker spaniel has given birth to several healthy puppies recently in 2025. A source told the outlet that all the puppies are “doing well” and that George, Charlotte, and Louis hope to keep them. The source added, “Everyone loves a new royal baby news and so new royal puppies run very close.”

It appears that Orla is making the couple happy in their married life. Middleton earlier wanted another child with the Prince. However, with Orla and her puppies in the picture, the family appears to be complete and happy.
