From Dec 2025, all new buildings with roofs over 100 sqm will need to install a minimum of 5 kW PV system. The regulation is expected to add nearly 3.5 GW of solar PV capacity by 2040, enough to power around 550,000 households annually.

  1. Weird this took so long given the widespread use of solar water heating over there.

  2. Kudos to Israel for taking an interest in roofs that doesn’t involve putting a rocket through them.

  3. So fun fact, Israel has been almost a decade behind their Paris Climate Accord goals since the beginning- especially since Netanyahu and his backers at Chevron have tried to turn the country into an important regional natural gas exporter for about 7-8 years now.

Meanwhile, Gaza had been somewhere between 50 and 75% solar before 2023, because of the unreliability of their gas generators due to being dependent on the IDF allowing them to get fuel into the territory.

Of course all that is rubble now.

  4. Hey, great idea. Maybe that can be done in the U.S….oh, yeah, power companies lobbied across the nation against this.
