Why Thames Water’s Nationalisation Looks Pretty Inevitable

  1. It’s been inevitable for a few years and yet the fucking govt and the shit regulator keep letting them pile up debts.

  2. It should be, it’s insane that the UK government doesn’t have the people and capacity to plan water infrastructure ahead, so we now risk hosepipe bans in a country famous for its rain!

  3. In fact, I say it shouldn’t even be in the control of Central Government, but jointly operated and funded through GLA and Thames Valley councils.

  4. It should be but the government doesn’t have the sense or balls to do it..

  5. I guess water is a basic human right but is people not dying of thirst really more important than my dividends!!!

  6. Just let them go bankrupt and the government take them over, leaving TW shareholders with the debt.

  7. I don’t understand the hesitance to just fucking do it. I mean, I guess I do as if starmerism stands for anything it’s being as extremely risk averse as humanly possible.

Perhaps they are waiting to fully develop a national water strategy or something like that.

  8. Thames water just decided to raise my monthly direct debit to £93 from £32… fuck Thames water

  9. So long as the government doesn’t pay for their debt. That’s the company’s loss, fuck them.

  10. Does it mean the government also nationalises immense debt? It’s gonna be fucking hilarious, knowing that TW raised dividends in a past few years.

  11. It should be but not until the current owners and investors are forced to pay a much of its debt off as they can. It’s criminal that we should all foot the bill for their incompetence.

  12. Nationalise them and bankrupt the company.. seems like a great idea and I’m all for it but, when you look past the investors from sovereign wealth of middle east oligarchy’s.. the main investors are pension funds.

Maggie must be laughing in her grave at this scam, along with the other scams she pulled off that is still costing us (selling off council housing stock and not allowing them to invest the funds in now properties.. that one is brilliant but not as good as the Water one which is a cash cow that is only a win for the directors)

  13. TW wrote to tell me I was wasting water as I had a leak. Turned out it was my outside tap that had a drip every 5 seconds or so.

I wrote back to them thanking them and then reminded them about the 3ft geyser that my neighbour opposite had in front of their house in the road for 4 days, cordoned off but with no one working on it. I asked how much water TW was wasting. Needless to say they never answered my question.

This was the geyser a few days after they started “working” on it.

  14. as much as i would love privatisation the state of the pipes in the UK requires billions in investment it would literally take the biggest project in UK history to get the pipes up to the standard we need. the government knows this and knows it does not have the capability. privatisation works on paper in reality UK lacks the ability to take on such a momentous task

  15. why was it even sold in the first place. it’s like selling your kidneys or something.

  16. No wonder, after their recent price hike I cancelled my direct debit.

They have sent me 1 bill since, when logging in I owe them nothing.

I will sit this out and hold the money back in case they will charge me but given the state of Thames Water I would be suprised if they come asking for it in the next 10 years.

  17. Good. Our direct debit was doubled this month for no reason.

  18. Yes yes yes and I’m no commie, free market capitalism has its place but not in a water company. Been a total piss take from the get-go!
