The previous highest air temperature recorded in the capital on the third day of July was +29.9 degrees in 1920.

The national record for 3 July was also broken. The highest air temperature in the LVĢMC observation network at 2 p.m. was +31.9 degrees in Kolka and Mērsrags.

The previous national heat record for 3 July was +30.7 C in Rūjiena in 1936.

The +30 degree mark has been exceeded in Latvia for the first time since August last year.

A cold atmospheric front is crossing Latvia from the west, bringing stronger winds and lower air temperatures. At the Pāvilosta and Ventspils observation stations, the temperature has dropped from +30 to around +20 degrees. The strongest gusts in the first half of the day were 16.6 metres per second in Rucava and 18.8 metres per second in Ventspils.
