I wonder if there’s a link between supermarkets hiking their prices and seeing huge profits and the increase in shoplifting?
seems they only have time for the pettiest of crimes and not the nice big juicy ones.
Nothing to do with price gouging and how desperate people are then(?)
AI facial recognition and double doors.
Any light fingered thief that’s on the database can’t get past the double doors. If you stop them getting in then you stop them from stealing.
Didn’t a Parliamentary Select Committee discover last year that the Big Six supermarkets were colluding to price fix basic foodstuffs and then nothing happened? I thought price fixing was illegal but I guess it’s not if it means posting £1billion+ in profits.
I mean, should supermarkets even make £1billion+ on profits? What the hell are they going to do with it all? Start a space programme?
No business anywhere, ever, should make MORE THAN ONE BILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY by selling bread and milk. Billion, with a B.
I think a huge problem the British public has is it doesn’t quite comprehend what an obscenely large number one billion is.
One million seconds is around 13 days. One billion seconds is around 32 YEARS. Now apply that same scaling factor to corporate profits i.e. price gouging.
>The Home Office, alongside police, retailers and industry are also launching a new Tackling Retail Crime Together Strategy, which will use shared data to assist in disrupting not just organised criminal gangs, but all types of perpetrators, including prolific offenders who are stealing to fund an addiction and ‘opportunist’ offenders.
Why was this not something already done?
Oh yay another decision that makes the corporations richer and struggling people poorer. Let’s just start rebelling already.
Every city should have The Wall of Shame where portraits of them are displayed and mocked.
-Let shop keepers/guard to actually stop shop lifters (citizen arrest)
-more legal protection for people stopping the shop lifters.(workers and other customers)
-more restrictions on carboot for sales of goods
-shop should promise lower prices with a proportion of how much of the prices are due to shop lifters)
Would have thought they have been doing that already but a step in the right direction, can’t be allowing all these petty crimes to go unpunished then be surprised when society starts to become shitter.
