Hello all,
unfortunately I never learnt Latvian, this is on the back of a picture from my great grandfather.
Could someone please help?
Paldies
“Grosīte?, Tava […] māte un Mārtiņi. Mans papus tajā laika bija Krievijā – [..] Ukrainā, karā. Tas ir apmēram 1920. Gads. “
that’s just what I could make of the words. Hope someone can help with the first sentence, but after that it says “my papa was in Russia at that time – war in Ukraine. That is approximately year 1920”
Hope this helps a little!
Well, I can’t figure out what the first word is – the handwriting is ugh 😀
“____, **here** (te?) **is your mother, Velta’s** (female Latvian name) **mother and** (either) **Mārtiņš** (male Latvian name) or Mārtiņ**i** (the last letter is really ugh lol) – then the writer could refer to several persons all named Mārtiņš.
**My** (?) **dad at that time was in Russia, that is, in Ukraine – at war.**
**That is approximately year of 1920.**
Thank you both so much!
Yes, my aunties father was called Martins, I’m pretty sure that this is her handwriting.
The picture is of my great-great grandmother, my great-grandma, her brother (my aunties father) and another woman I could never quite place.
I guess I will have to come back to Latvia and do some more digging on the woman which appears in a lot of pictures, but I’m not sure who she is.
Paldies 😊
Edit: the mystery woman is most likely called Velta then.
As neither of my great-great grandmother and great grandmother is called Velta.
Maybe another sister?!
