I can still picture myself walking into a pub in the early afternoon. Only two others were there, roaring with laughter at Total Wipeout. They were very intoxicated and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Sometimes I hate being British
i once walked into a pub in Kilburn with a mate. There was a lot of people in the pub but nobody was saying anything.. the TV was on in the corner and it had an Irish news programme on. I walked up to the bar and ordered two pints and they all shouted me to shut up they were trying to watch the tv… had our pints and left as soon as we could.. (I’m Irish by the way and the show was called “nationwide” which is a load of old bollox)
I think the pub was either called McGoverns or Coopers (couldn’t tell them apart, both on Kilburn High Road)
Imagine if someone dropped a glass at the same time??? 🙌🏽
Like watching the football but without the punch up after.
Sometimes I wonder if our society doesn’t have a ‘crabs in a bucket’ mentality, but a fundamental distrust of success. If we can *see* someone succeed through their own merits we feel good about it, it’s when we haven’t seen the work we assume something fucky has occurred.
We love an underdog. Totally get it.
If I even walked into a pub that had the chase on I don’t think you’d be able to get me to leave
*English.
Can’t believe it’s just me who cannot stand when pubs put non-sport TV on.
Cheering at that makes more sense than cheering at footie tbh.
