A while back, with the first fake shortage, firms who happen to have donated money to the Tories got a waiver to let them collude on price. Was that ever rescinded?

The article is out of date, but it’s hardly a surprise.
Over half the cost of petrol at the pump in the U.K. is taxes. And the U.K. has some of the highest petrol taxes in the world.
Thats because we always pay and mob any protesters.
You mean… oil companies are profiteering?
I’m shocked. Truly shocked. Does the government know? Oh….
Face it. The country is in a state of terminal decline. It’s getting shittier in every sense. It’s been this way for a while.
Oil company profits are at record highs, coincidentally… of course.
Ok as the article states when in places like Venezuela fuel is 1.9ppl, Libya is 2.5ppl and Iran 3.9ppl I’m not sure the global average price is a reasonable number to compare it to. We’re still paying less than other countries in Western Europe.
Wouldn’t be all that surprised if most things in the U.K. are more than 58% more expensive than the global average, we’re a rich and high cost country.
We’re taxed to the eyeballs. Fuel duty is 52.95 pence per litre as well as 20% for VAT.
Scrapping the competition law earlier this year should have done the trick.
Fuel in the UK is extremely cheap in comparison to wages.
I’m old enough to remember when Venezuela saw riots because the govt removed *subsidies* for fuel and the price rose about a penny a litre.
We probably should have seen the problems there coming tbh.
If you really hate it then just move to the gulf where you can fill up your car with premium unleaded for a tenner.
There is a bit of a fiddle going on. Diesel is 12p a litre more expensive than petrol, which is the biggest difference I’ve ever seen it be in 12 years of driving a diesel car.
Because most countries subsidise their fuel…
Which the green movement would be a bit angry about…

Also a little out of date, but illustrates it nicely: https://afdc.energy.gov/data/mobile/10327
