Claudio Coldebella, new sporting director of the Maccabi Tel Aviv, is looking carefully at Italy to strengthen the roster of the Israeli team.
In fact, as reported to Backdoor Podcast, Coldebella has set his sights on the tall players. Jason Burnell, strong wing of the Germani Brescia.
The American power forward is coming off an excellent season with the Brescia jersey in which he averaged 12.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, all topped off by 40% from 3-point range during the regular season.
Maccabi Tel Aviv has initiated initial contacts with the Brescia club, with which the player is still under contract, to understand the feasibility of the operation, according to what was reported to our editorial team.
The Israeli club is looking for reinforcements in the tall department, especially after the farewell of Jasiel Rivero, who has reached an agreement with Red Star Belgrade.
So far, Jason Burnell has always played in our championship, wearing the jerseys of Cantù, Sassari, Brindisi and Brescia.
The American player, however, is not entirely new to European basketball, having played two seasons in the BCL with Sassari and one in the FIBA Europe Cup with the Brindisi jersey.
An extremely versatile athlete, also gifted with excellent passing skills, Burnell represents an intriguing profile as a possible alternative in the 4-5 role for the Israeli club.
At 27, this could be the perfect time for Burnell to take another leap in quality and try his hand at the EuroLeague for the first time.
It remains to be seen, however, whether Brescia and Maccabi will be able to find an agreement to continue the negotiations. The Italian club, in fact, would not want to lose an important player like Burnell but Maccabi’s pressure could prove difficult to manage.
