158 year old searching for new platonic friendships after recently getting out of a very toxic, abusive, relationship. European friends are more than welcome!
Ontario? Why not, the only place I have been to in Canada so far was Calgary and it was a business trip anyway.
It’s so cheap to fly from Dublin to Toronto, and you dont risk getting thrown in Alligator Auschwitz
I can warmly recommend Quebec, lots of interesting cheese and beer.
If you folks thought Americans were rude, just wait until the French start coming
I’m not even European and I would love to visit the the north! Churchill, Nunavut, Yellowknife! Would be so cool!
For any Canadians reading this: What would you say are the best places to visit in Canada for someone who loves history, food, art, museums etc?
Great news for us.
If I visit North America again, my next trip will most definitely be to Canada for sure. The US only if I have to (work), but it doesn’t look like it.
I’d like to explore the western provinces like British Columbia that I haven’t been to yet.
As I have family in the Toronto and Ottawa areas whom I have visited more times than I can count I can really recommend Ontario generally. But Europeans should visit cognizant that Toronto is a metropolis (the greater CMA is over 12 million people) and really a financial and industrial center and does not have much of all the old style architecture typical of much of Europe. Toronto is incredibly busy and one of the leading “skyscraper” cities in the world. Just In the downtown there is over 15km of underground walkways connecting dozens of office and residential buildings which is pretty cool but outside of business hours is barren and most stores closed. In Ottawa I would say the prime attraction is their parliament building which is really quite spectacular but right now it is under reconstruction and so you can’t access parts of it and get the feel for it like one would if the construction was gone.
The real beauty of Ontario and Canada from my experience may be twofold: the natural beauty is unparalleled. And it truly is multicultural. I doubt I have been anywhere where I have seen as many mixed heritage couples as in Canada. Especially I think Caucasian/Asian (usually Chinese) in Ontario. And as a result of the multiculturalism there is often a huge array of cuisine options in many cities.
That said if you read the guides there is a huge number of “touristy” things to do: the Ottawa canal, museums, and in Toronto the CN Tower and so much more. Just prepare. I think a lot of things will not be “unique” but they can be very enjoyable.
Understand some barriers: Ontario is huge and everything is far away from each other. Were you to try to drive from one end of the province to another it would take 24 hrs of non-stop driving assuming you could average over 100km/hr. Sure you want to go visit a nice provincial park such as the famous Algonquin Park while you are in Toronto. Guess what – they are 4 hrs apart from each other and that is on a good day with no traffic. Sometimes just reaching the outskirts of Toronto from downtown can be a 2+ hr drive due to traffic.
And it can get very hot and it is a humid hot. They have had some famous heat waves with humidex readings in the high 40s. Thankfully air conditioning is common – I have never encountered a hotel that lacked AC but you should still check if not a major chain.
Why do we keep getting all these Canadian spam in /r/Europe?
I go to Portugal in the fall and Iceland in the summer.
Living in Ontario, I can’t afford to go to our west coast. Yet, you can and way cheaper than me.
Take me with youuuuu!
Very happy to see Canadian tourism pick up while the USA’s gone all Nazi shaped.
Go see Canada. Go see Mexico. Skip US.
Maybe ill visit too, Ive always wanted to see India lol
As a Canadian, even I have no idea what’s in Ontario for a tourist. Like, why Ontario when we have Banff, northern lights and glaciers?
Ontario? That’s a bit odd, isn’t it?
I mean, I am sure Toronto and Ottawa are lovely, but I would expect Europeans to visit the provinces with the most natural wonder to the West
Canada is top fucking tier to be fair
The views are amazing if you don’t mind blue balls
For my European friends thinking about Canada, if you love the outdoors, I would highly recommend the Canadian Rockies, Banff and Jasper National Parks. As an American who wholeheartedly encourages everyone to avoid the US like the plague, I’ve been to many of our high alpine national parks (American Rockies-Colorado, Yosemite, Kings Sequoia, Yellowstone, Tetons, Alaska) I will say my most favorite for natural beauty was the Canadian Rockies. We flew into Calgary, rented an RV, and spent 10 days between Banff, one day/night in the Lake Louise area, and Jasper. I understand it’s currently under construction, but Mount Edith Cavel isn’t to be missed when open. We had to rent a car in Jasper for the day to drive the winding switch backed road; totally worth it. We liked it so much we did the exact same trip two years in a row. Not to mention the Canadians are an amazing people✅
Welcome!
Come to Vancouver, we have everything from ocean views, beaches, forests, mountains and amazing food and to top it off our currency sucks so you will save there.
Go west, east, or qc never Ontario
Please keep it up and feel free to let our Republican governors know why you won’t be visiting our country anymore. Feel free to tell them they would’ve made great Nazis.
I want Canada and Europe to form a stronger relationship and basically shun the U.S. because there need to be consequences for supporting fascism. It is like a nightmare watching your fellow citizens act like Nazis, while constantly denying they’re acting like Nazis.
