Russia Warns NATO Of Clashes In Arctic; Says Accession Of Sweden & Finland To US-Led Military Block Will Worsen Situation

  1. Well neither of those countries borders the ocean in the north. Finland doesn’t because Russia stole that access.

  2. It would most definitely worsen the situation as the only access Russia would have to the oceans would also be blocked by NATO, as the Marmara Sea already is under the Montreux Convention, only leaving them Vladivostok.

With Finland it’s even worse, as it is within spitting distance to St. Petersburg.

  3. “Currently, Russia has the chairmanship of the council but following its aggression in Ukraine, the other seven members have refused to attend the council meetings. Meanwhile, Russia is concerned about the increased military activity of NATO in the Arctic,” it says here, and

“Currently, 5 of the 8 member countries of the Arctic Council – the US, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Canada – are also members of NATO although Iceland technically lacks an official army.”

  4. The problem is, no-one believes *anything* Putin’s regime says. So better to play it safe and up your security.

  5. Russia will worsen the situation anyway by whatever means possible , including lies, desinfo, murder , rape, torture etc etc.

  6. If only there were something you could have done differently to make them feel safe as a neighbour of Russia, not requiring membership of a defensive alliance. If only.
