Hopefully they can find another backer, but it’s a tough ask.
Ah shit, I knew they had publishers pull the plug on a game but I didn’t realise it meant the end of the company altogether. Hope everyone lands on their feet.
Now we are never going to get Daikatana 2.
Ah Jesus, that is awful news.
I had always liked the fact that JR had moved to Galway and set up a successful enterprise there. It was really something to have one of the guys who created the modern FPs as we know it move to the west of ireland and set up shop here.
Hopefully they find another publisher but at such short notice this will probably be a big undertaking. Shit.
That’s sad. I just finished reading John Romero’s autobiography, Doom Guy, which is really interesting and he briefly talked about the new game he was working on at the end. Sad to see it go down like this.
Had no idea the company is Irish based. Been hearing this news for a day or two now and no one seemed to mention that. I hope all affected can land on their feet in some way.
Seriously, fuck Microsoft. In a single, careless swipe, a whole Irish company put out of business because Microsoft execs aren’t able to plan more than five weeks in advance apparently.
John and Brenda are the nicest people you’ll meet. And they love Galway. This is very sad.
Yeah this is on Microsoft/Xbox. The canned a bunch of stuff this week that didn’t just affect their own employees but companies like John and Brenda’s too.
Fuck Microsoft.
Very nice people met them years ago up in the college they had a play John in Wolfenstein one on one he kicked my ass and everyone else lol they laid on a pile of pizzas too…
So sad. Millionaires gotta make more millions.
Job losses aside, I think the world’s children can do without another first person shooter game.
Terrible news – Brenda and John are salt of the earth folks.
Met them at comic con and at one of the lans they hosted in Galway several years ago ( They are still hosting lans for quake etc every year in Galway ) – super nice and down to earth.
Hoping this gets resolved.
Proper corporation shit all friendly to them literally the day before and kill them the next day, sounds like the same story at multiple studios.
This is standard Microsoft procedure. Buy a studio and shut them down after a couple of years because they don’t know what they’re doing. They’ve been doing it for a long time now.and companies still fall for it.
