The French Navy commissioned under French Defense Minister watch the Tourville today, 3rd of the 6 Suffren class nuclear powered attack submarines. Following boats to be commissioned in 2027 for The DeGrasse, 2028 for The Rubis and 2030 for The Casabianca.
The 1st was the Suffren delivered ahead of schedule in 2022, and the 2nd Duguay-Trouin delivered on time in 2024.
4 of those same Suffren Barracuda Class submarine but on hybrid propulsion will be delivered to the Dutch Navy.
France’s NavalGroup is on the run for an eventual contract in Canada.
Considering how vulnerable surface platforms have proven to be in the Black Sea. Norway should perhaps ditch the idea of 6 new frigates for £10bn, and rather buy 5 nuclear submarines for the same price….it would probably be a more efficient deterrent in the Atlantic that 6 vulnerable frigates…..
Between Spain, with its new series of “conventional” S-80+ attack submarines, and France, with its new nuclear series, Europe will be quite well protected.
Here we are in the very high end.
Took them 14 years to build this one submarine btw.
Beautiful!
Meanwhile Poland still contemplating, which subs to order. Episode 2157.
The French Navy has excellent submarines, maybe Australia will miss them.
