The most affordable seaside spots to buy a house across Great Britain have been revealed by Rightmove. With summer comes the dream of long beach walks, fish and chips by the sea and waking up to coastal views.
But this could be your reality all year round if you buy a home in some of the country’s cheapest seaside towns, where average house prices are more than a quarter of a million pounds below the UK’s national average of £378,240.
Buyer demand for seaside homes is up eight percent compared to last year, Rightmove says, while prices across the top 50 most expensive coastal areas have dipped by one percent.
Saltcoats in Ayrshire, Scotland is currently cheapest seaside area in Great Britain, where properties sell for around £122,000 on average.

The Scottish coastal town offers sandy beaches, gorgeous sunsets over the Firth of Clyde and excellent transport links to Glasgow.
As well as being the most affordable area right now, Saltcoats is experiencing the fastest price growth of any coastal area, with the average asking price up 13 percent compared to last year.
Hot on Saltcoats’ heels is Peterlee in County Durham, where homes are also priced just above £122,000.
Ashington in Northumberland has the third cheapest house prices at £135,000, whilst the Lancashire seaside resort of Blackpool is also in the top 10 list of the most affordable seaside spots for home-buyers.
Meanwhile, Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset is the most expensive coastal area in Great Britain with an average asking price of £1,282,565 – three times more expensive than the national average.
Canford Cliffs in Poole is the second most expensive coastal area, where homes sell for around £974,635 on average, and Milford-on-Sea in Hampshire is in third with properties priced around £728,460.
Colleen Babcock, property expert at Rightmove, said: “These lower-priced seaside spots offer home-movers a sea view at a fraction of the price, with average asking prices over a quarter of a million pounds below the national average.
“Sandbanks now stands out as the only seaside spot with an average asking price of over the million-pound mark.”
