Wait, are there no safety checks on the people offering to house refugees? I would assume there would have to be the same level of safeguard checks done for them as they do for the likes of teachers or care workers etc. And on top of that there needs to be other suitability checks done. Like home inspections before hand and an interview because there are bound to be well meaning people with mental illness living in filth. There will be incels with revolting attitudes to women, rapists, men with a history of violence, drug users etc.
Honestly it’s amazing that those in charge don’t think of this, it was my first thought, and I saw plenty of charities screaming at them to regulate it more. Where there are vulnerable women, there will always be horny men trying to exploit them. It already happens illegally in the UK where men expect sex in exchange of housing.
Actually, it also happens to British (and european) backpackers who go to Australia on a working holiday visa, where you have to do three months of rural farm work to get a second visa. The system is completely unregulated, and I did interact with a man who’d set up a rural farm for the sole purpose of luring young female backpackers. I have heard of other stories of farmers signing off the visa slip in exchange of sexual services, and a few other horror stories.
This sub wants people to be housed quicker, but also wants vetting to be more rigerous.

Literally commented this on a post in the last month saying that this system was wide open for abuse – I had multiple people tell me that I was talking rubbish, all precautions were being taken and that Ukrainian refugees were not vulnerable and did not need extra support.
