Crew member dies on fishing vessel bound for Malta

A 44-year-old man died aboard a fishing vessel early today whilst the boat was operating 100 nautical miles off the Maltese coast.

The fishing boat returned to Malta this afternoon, arriving at Ta’ Xbiex at 5pm with the man’s body on board, where police were waiting.

A police spokesperson told Newsbook Malta that the man was part of the boat’s crew when the incident occurred. The spokesman said the man initially felt unwell but died shortly afterwards.

Police sources indicated that the death does not appear suspicious, though an autopsy will still be carried out to verify the cause of death.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading a magisterial inquiry while police investigations are ongoing.
