Supporters of the “Future of Moldova” party, led by former Prime Minister of the Communist government Vasile Tarlev, participated in a protest action organized in Europe Square in the center of the capital on Saturday. At the end of the demonstration, the participants voted on a resolution demanding the resignation of the PAS government, halting the militarization process of the country, and ending political persecutions. Also, the protesters demanded that the authorities’ decisions be made in the interest of the citizens, reports IPN.

The organizers claim that over 4500 citizens participated in the event, as well as representatives of the political opposition. The president of the formation, Vasile Tarlev, declared to the crowd that “Moldova needs an honest government, one that listens to the voice of the people and does not turn freedom of speech into a form of repression.”

The former prime minister criticized the current government, accusing the Action and Solidarity Party of usurping state institutions, shutting down inconvenient media, and excluding the opposition from public debates. At the same time, the politician demanded the guarantee of equal conditions for all parties in the electoral process. In this context, he proposed the reorganization of the Central Electoral Commission and ensuring international monitoring from the OSCE, the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe, and diplomatic missions.

The resolution upheld by the participants at the meeting states that the EU-Moldova Summit, held on Friday in Chisinau, represented “a direct and crude intervention in the internal electoral process, intended to manipulate public opinion through lies and propaganda”.
