If they’re damned if they do and then damned if they don’t then the concern clearly hasn’t got anything to do with whether they’re employed or not, now does it?

For that matter, how exactly does an asylum seeker ‘take a job’?

    They’re filling available vacancies.

The reason they’re seen as more desirable for ‘low skilled’ work is because the Tories, ever eager to throw more performative cruelty to their voter base, enacted legislation allowing employers to pay asylum seekers 20% less.

Asylum seekers don’t undercut wages by choice. The Government forces them to undercut wages.

The solution is not to throw working people out of work. The solution is to equalise the minimum wage and to expand the ‘higher skills’ job market. Oh, and to drop this insane drive to 0% unemployment. A healthy job market requires at least 3 to 4% unemployment.

Besides, there’d be no need to import the entire population of Albania to peddle food from place to place if the people of this country could go more than twenty minutes without shoving another take-away down their gullets.

  2. Then just make it legal for people to work, instead of just locking them up and giving them a pittance while taking over a year to process their case.

  3. I didn’t think asylum seekers could work?  Isn’t it the migrants that are stealing all the jobs?  Illegal asylum migrants!!!!

  4. Check every delivery driver….backroom staff in take aways and restaurants…and hotels

Better still. Add a 200k fine for every illegal worker found working for these companies.

Deliveroo would have a policy in place to remove rhem in days

  5. So let me get this straight .. people fleeing war, persecution and poverty are being housed in limbo for months or even years, banned from working, given a few pounds a day… and when they try to earn a living delivering food, the government calls it “criminality” and launches a “nationwide blitz”?..

Maybe the real scandal isn’t that some of them are trying to survive with dignity .. it’s that we’re forcing people to rot in hotels, barred from contributing to society, while ministers posture for headlines..

If they were allowed to work legally, pay taxes and support themselves, none of this would be a problem..

This isn’t about enforcing law it’s about distraction politics and feeding anti-migrant hysteria while the real crises go ignored.. Shameful stuff..

  6. The Lab….Conserv….Lab…….Conserv……I am genuinely confused.
