Flights cancelled as French air traffic controllers go on strike • FRANCE 24 English
French vacationers are finding it hard to reach their destinations. Anticipating a strike, this retiree took her trip early, paying a little extra, €50 more. We also came by bus, which was more expensive at the last minute. The strike will cost the cancellation of 25% of flights in Paris airports this Thursday and 40% on Friday. This health care professional is worried about getting back from Corsica. It is imperative that I get back Friday evening because I work this weekend. So, we’ll see. Airports in the south of the country will also be affected with 30% cancellations expected in Leon, Marseilles, and Aasio, and as much as 50% in Calvie, Bastia, and Nice. Some flights have even been cancelled at the last minute. We weren’t informed in time, so we’re unhappy. We found a flight at 7:15.
The two unions on strike, representing 33% of the profession, have denounced understaffing and called for pay raises. Their main gripe, however, is a new check-in system that monitors whether workers are actually on site. Previously, probes have found that some air traffic controllers had been absent when traffic was low, even when they were scheduled. It was felt that not knowing the actual number of air traffic controllers on site in the tower could be potentially dangerous, creating the risk of incidents or accidents. The Minister of Transportation has said the reforms are essential and he will not give in to the striker’s demands. The largest union representing 60% of air traffic controllers has not joined the strike.
French air traffic controllers began a two-day strike on Thursday to protest against staff shortages and ageing equipment, leading to hundreds of flight cancellations just as the summer season gets under way.

Time for western countries to learn from China, Japan India etc. You wasted all your resources to teach democracy to Middle East and Russia. You wasted your money and resources to help Israel. You created a mess in Syria, Libya and now facing uncontrolled immigration to your own countries. You never focused on development of your own country. Have you seen China, Japan, South Korea going war with other countries post WW2? Have you seen them teaching other countries their views ?
It is an annual thing, so it's hardly something new…
Yet another reason why I have chosen to skip Europe all together and vacation in China from now on. Europe has played itself out.
Unions are 3rd world asf
Good. Less pollution.
The French going on strike, never heard of this before…
The Irish also struggling..
I started work at 2pm and will finish at 3-4am because of these strikes. Thanks France. Again.
My flight got cancelled as well 😢😓easy jet cancelled it Amsterdam to nice yesterday so we tried to book something again because we weren't aware of the strikes we booked a easy jet flight from Amsterdam to Malta and then to Nice but fortunately we decided to cancel the whole booking as the flights were too expensive now I see everything from Malta is anywyss delayed significantly or cancelled 😢was really looking forward to my trip
Why go away on holiday when we have such glorious sunshine here in France?
The interviewed travellers seem pretty upbeat about the situation.
My flights was delayed for 7 hours I just came back from the flight but when we got in the plane there was no pilot so we had to get a stand in pilot and we had no fuel so so we had to wait a extra 1h so finally after 8h and a half we got on the plane and when we landed we got our money/some money back 😅
Good
Do you french do ANYTHING but strike ??? Oh, yes – you receive most of the EU budget as well for your equally stiking farmers….
and it's always the same sectors. LOok,if you are going to complain about your work conditions find other ways to do so, that won't interfere with people's time, money and wellbeing, because you have no right to interfere with those. Simple. And you can always look for another job if you are so extremely dissatisfied.
They do this every year. I don’t get the point
