I agree, but not building it. Renovating. Even more embarrassing is that when they finally planned the final phase, they first had to renovate/replace the scaffolding.
Also, the guy providing the scaffolding literally got rich of off it.
About 5 years ago they paid about 2 million € to renew the scaffold. The old ones were 40 yrs old.
Actually it (Belgian Palace of Justice) has been built & finished for quite some time already (since 1883).. The building scaffolding you see there are for renovation & restoring purposes.. Ironically, they ve been on there for so long that they themselves need actual restoring and renovation, before they can continue the works on the actual building..
All n all, it’s pretty good symbolism for Brussels as a city, and perhaps even for Belgium as a country..
I dont see it as embarassing. Just totally stupid construction to maintain. “De Loge” should pay for it, it was their design.
I visited it when i was the third middelbaar, so 13 years old. Wich was in 2003. Need i say more?
I find the restoration lenght ridiculous to but don’t forget that when it was built it was the biggest Building by volume or area in the world. It’s still is absolutly massive and a historic landmark. Restorating something like that is not an easy task
‘Bout two weeks ; surely that is quick enough for you?
I would say the most embarssing thing in belgium is station st-pieters because add-ons/renovations started when i was like 10-12
Lang genoeg
It looks like a picture but it’s actually a 40-year timelapse video
They destroyed the monument 2 years ago when they tore down the scaffolds
Time to raze it and put something more functional on the hill. At a certain moment it has to stop. They even played with the id to change it into a mall. But the cost is too much to be profitable. I know its old and a land scape view but its getting ridiculous.
Have you heard of the Sagrada Familia?
It’s a great place to explore. I have not been inside for a while but you used to be able to go more or less everywhere including to the top floors and, with the help of the scaffolding, to the roof for an awesome view of Brussels. Brought a date there once… Just avoid exploring the underground floors as there are rooms full of archived evidence collected for criminal trials, as well as a prison.
I think your post is a serious contender.
Oosterweel is doing an earnest attempt to challenge its title :p
