Hah. Ryan is a clown and is thankfully talking the green party into obscurity
Unfortunately Ryan is the only one talking sense about the environmental challenges we face.
It’s not popular to increase tax, ban turf, call for less journeys by car etc.
Unfortunately we are going to have to make sacrifices to get the climate issue under control.
Try going into any estate in towns that do not have a smokey coal ban during a cold winter’s night for example, the air quality is awful.
Ryan unlike the other parties is not in this for self preservation, he is in this to get as much climate legislation over the line as possible over the next 3 years.
Technically Ryan will be the most successful minor coalition partner ever when it comes down to reviewing his career. Every policy was in his manifesto and at the end of the day they are the policies he was voted in on.
He knows this is a one chance saloon, he has to accomplish as much as possible now because as a party they will be dead ducks for the next 2 election cycles and he is going balls out to get everything done. Unfortunately that is where the problem lies, we are not ready for these changes and they need bringing in more gradually over a longer period, not overnight during a cost of living crisis.
So yes, he looks like an out if touch clown and maybe he does have his head so far up his hole he doesn’t see the pain he is inflicting but we do need the changes he is making and no other political party would have the balls to throw themselves on the line to accomplish them. Ryan is a sacrifice that his coalition partners are willing to make.
Maybe you are the stupid one?
Anyone watch prime time last night?
Ryan was questioned about the ban on turf and said that it would just be a ban on large commercial producers and small non-commercial cutting could still continue.
Then Miriam asked the Sinn Feinn spokesman what their policy on turf cutting would be but kept cutting him off
and re-asking the question when he tried to just criticise the government. He refused to give a straight answer and she pretty much just went to the next segment.
Was great to see it.
Eamonn Ryan actually came across very intelligent and considered on Primetime last night as opposed to a SF TD who just sort of emphasised how SF has zero platform on the environment. They literally have no policy on climate change and it’s painful to listen to.
Sinn Fein have no climate policy. I emailed a few months ago challenging their opposition of the carbon tax with well presented facts, and all I received back was vague rambling about how the government was making us suffer and they’d do better.
Do better how? How?
Say what you like about him, but Eammon is at least a kind and well-intentioned man, which is a lot more than you can say for most politicians.
He’s a TD and a Minister. Seems like this is a huge part of his job.
You don’t like it, vote him out next time.
Weirdly this whole turf episode has actually made me support the green party. All the parties know burning turf is terrible for the environment and our health and that it should have been banned ages ago. FFG are trying to roll back on it to keep their rural vote rather than supporting it and protecting the health of their constituents. You may not agree with the greens but they are the only party following the science on this.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
sell turf do ye?
He may not be likeable, it doesn’t mean he is wrong about climate change and the need to take major action
I think the big problem with the Green’s platform is that it’s mostly stick and no carrot. We all acknowledge that we need to cut emissions, but just increasing the carbon tax, putting up the price of petrol etc. isn’t enough. We need a large scale roll out of infrastructure for electric cars. We need a large scale roll out of infrastructure for clean energy.
Trying to disincentive fossil fuels is necessary, but if there are few viable alternatives, as is the case now, then what are we going to switch to? Is the grid capable of handling a huge influx of electric cars? And if so, are there anywhere near enough charging points?
Another idea would be huge investment into public transport. Not small scale, buying a few new train carriages, I mean expanding the rail network. Building a metro system. More and better buses. Prices of public transport should be slashed to encourage usage.
That said, Eamon Ryan often comes across as callous or indifferent to the real suffering of people. Rather than having a plan to ease the pain of people he says things like “have a shorter shower” or “drive slower”. We’re not children, Eamon, we aren’t looking for advice. We’re looking for you to put in a plan to help. The Greens are bringing in half measures, that ultimately will not be enough. They’re happy to increase taxes or ban turf, but much less likely to invest heavily in the green economy.
I see Green voters have stationed themselves in here
If you ever were able to recognise the bullshit spin that was slapped on everything Jeremy Corbin said, you should be able to see the same here.
Whats the context? Who is eamon and what has he done / said?
The man is a bell 🔔
The greens are an outdated party made from an outdated idea and shouldn’t exists.
I’m not a fan of Ryan but the shocked Pikachu people amaze me. He’s probably the only politician in the history of the state who is being flamed for enacting his manifesto.
Learn how to spell his name.
Well this thread didn’t turn out like OP hoped. Apparently we’re all rather happy, albeit a bit surprised, with a political party implementing the policies they were elected on.
I was incredibly disappointed in their lack of commitment to social justice when they voted to seal records for mother and baby homes for 30 years – potentially breaking Irish and data protection law to protect the church. The greens are a *hard* right party when it comes to social issues.
So, can someone explain to me why it is that every time the Greens do something, such as announce new policy, or speak prominently to the media, 1-3 threads pop up here attacking either the Greens in general, or Eamon Ryan in particular?
What’s even stranger is that the threads get a lot of upvotes, but almost all of the comments and debate under the threads are disagreeing with the attack.
I haven’t laughed for a while but this made me laugh, thanks.

Why did you people make Eamon Ryan relevant again?

Athens won’t like that.
