I sent a package to my belgian bf on the 24th of June. It’s been stuck at customs for 5 days. And then i got this message. What happens next? what did i do wrong? I never had this issue… please help :”) Should i file a complaint? I tried talking with the AI chatbot (no good response).

  1. It’s being inspected by customs, depending on what’s inside your boyfriend might have to pay an extra fee, it can take some time.

  2. You didn’t do anything wrong I assume. I bet it’s just delayed due to shortage of staff.

  4. 5 days? First time exporting goods? Because 5 days is nothing. I guess you sent food items, they will need to be checked manually for illegal substances on the ingredients list. That will take time.

  6. 5 days is very early, no need to panick. BPost is slow and especially so in the summer. My packages have been in the customs for 2 weeks.

  7. Waited for some kitten clothes for nearly a month and had to pay 20 in taxes and 20 inspection fee. Now I am waiting for a watch stuck in customs for 2 weeks, probably another 2 weeks to go. Then probably around 200 to pay. Never again.
    UPS delivered the same cat clothes (US shop sent the package again) in less than a week and had to pay just 10 euros.

  8. My package arrived Friday, it came from Azerbijdzan and took like 1.5 months. So patience is the key with customs here.

  9. Just wait. Those services are either severely understaffed or highly inefficient. Earlier this I expected a small package from the UK. Within 2 days it arrived at the customs, I received the package over a month later.

  10. If you read the message, they say there are delays. Nothing can be done.

  11. You didn’t do anything wrong, it’s just summer and they’re probably understaffed. Just hope that they won’t send your bf a bill for the handling and he’ll get it in due time.

  13. I ordered something from the UK recently and it was in customs exactly 20 business days.

  14. I worked with Bpost and can tell you they can’t do anything about it. Customs is inspecting the package and they will hand it back to Bpost once they’re done.

  15. I got the same message last week, it’s just a standard message saying it’s very busy and there will be some delay. Nothing to worries about, it’s all perfectly normal.

  16. Packages can get stuck for a LONG time, sadly enough – I’ve learned that from experience.

    You can always call BPost support, but most likely their answer is going to be “just wait a few more days”.

  17. I have the same. A registered letter from the U.K. which has been sitting with customs for a month now. Seems there’s nothing can be done about it though…

  18. My package from czech (which is EU) has been stuck in customs as well for the last 2weeks n half. I dunno why its there in the first place

  19. Such chatbots aren’t really AI, they are programmed for basic things like asking and directing customers towards a certain page in the website.
    Sometimes just starting a chat with such a chatbots and you just don’t say anything to it, it is possible a real person will take over. I’m not saying it will, but with some of them it does. Might be worth the try.

  20. Bpost is the worst, except for that one time at the post office at the “boeretoren” during a national strike

    That lady was nice, helpful and parient, i had a registered mail that had to be send that day, got notice of it about 20min before closing time, ran my ass of to get there, they didn’t have enveloppes, She send me to the bodega around the corner and we got it done with minutes to space.
    She was extremely nice.

    But as far as delivery is conderned, they simply are critically/ridiculously understaffed and therefore completely inept to get your shit to you in a timely matter.

  21. If you’re sending it from outside of the EU, it will take some time. My parents once sent me a cellphone and it took 3 months to get here lol

  22. I´ve rarely had problems sending international package with bpost from Belgium to somewhere else. Funny thing is that sending a package to Austria took 3 weeks (!) while sending packages to the US took less than 2 weeks. Except the last time when it was stuck with customs in the US. I called bpost – fuck those useless chatbots – and they explained that when ´packages´ are checked, they check the entire container. That´s what caused a significant delay. Could be the same in your case.

    Best advice: ignore the chatbot, call a human if you can.
