Over the weekend, Melanie Brown, also known as Scary Spice of the Spice Girls, got married for the third time, making it official with her 37-year-old new husband Rory McPhee in two wedding dresses. Anything but intimate and private, the wedding did not go unnoticed: who would have guessed that Mel B would say yes in the wake of a similar royal wedding?

If it is true that the wedding dress should be perfectly contextualized in the location, Mel B then chose both very well. The former Spice Girl was married at the Chapel of the Order of the British Empire at St. Paul’s Cathedral. In July 1981 Lady Diana married then Prince Charles at the same cathedral. Very exclusive location aside (granted because she was a Member of the Order of the British Empire by appointment of Prince William in 2022, for her activism against domestic violence), Mel B wore a white gown that blended tradition and contemporaneity.

A sweetheart bodice and sleeves of transparent tulle, pearls up to the neck, a not exaggeratedly long train and, of course, the ever-present veil: Mel B’s wedding dress was designed by the British fashion house Josephine Scott and was chosen at the famous London boutique, Evelie. A choice that certainly meets the disappointment of those who hoped for a stylistic intervention of Victoria Beckham, who was not in attendance (of the Spice Girls only Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton was present).

“This trip turned out to be amazing from the exact moment Mel walked through Evelie’s door,” Caroline Black, founder of the boutique, recounted on Instagram. “Helping a real Spice Girl choose her wedding dress: is there anything more exceptional?” Present in person (in total blue and complete with a hatinator) at the wedding, Caroline Black arranged the bride’s dress before her entrance and chapel. A respectable role, which she called on social media “a real honor.”
