BBC News: Johnson and Sunak to be fined over lockdown parties

  1. Boris saying “As soon as I found out about these parties, I was furious!” a few months ago now sounds even more hilariously bad for him.

  2. Is this the first time a Prime Minister has been found guilty of breaking the law?

    Edit: not acting PM

  3. Didn’t expect the Met to have the balls to do this – glad they did though.

Edit: This isn’t a defense of the met – just a tinge of surprise that they did something not-awful for a change. Back to their regularly scheduled programming now I assume.

  4. Micheal Gove just came and shat himself.

“Sandra, put your clothes back on and get me coffee and a big bag of coke, I’ve got plotting to do”

  5. Good.

It’s absolutely disgraceful how politicians seem to think they’re exempt from the laws they push through. I just hope whoever issues the fines remembers how high the fines were for citizens fined at the time, and matches that.

  6. PMQs is going to be interesting! Let’s see how the opposition attempts to hold them to account.

  7. I look forward to seeing Boris refuse to resign, the conservative party doing nothing about it, and for the country to continue its death spiral into a xenophobic wasteland with mecha-pritis roaming the border firing fireballs at dinghys in the channel.

  8. Tories will cry that there’s a war going on, whilst they do as little as possible to their former Russian friends and Putin’s goons will continue to rape and pillage their way to Kyiv

  9. Under British common law, if a Prime Minister is convicted of a criminal offence then all British subjects are allowed to choose one free crime to commit.

    It’s in the Magna Carta

  10. Hmm.

  11. Now watch the mental gymnastics we’re going to see from Tory MPs over the next few days as they’re trotted out in the media to explain why the Prime Minister repeatedly and demonstrably (1) lying and (2) breaking the law isn’t a problem because he went to Kyiv.

  12. If Boris survives this as prime minister, this brings the government into disrepute like nothing before it. This is bigger than Boris.

  13. There were reports over the weekend that Sunak was considering his position. Imagine if after this he chose to “do the honorable thing” and tender his resignation?

  14. Sack this whole rotten cabinet now please

And while we’re at it sack 90% of both Tory and Labour parties too and have a total reset of our rotten politics. Thanks.

  15. The actual ‘fine’ is largely irrelevant.

The significance of being outed as having lied in parliament and to the general public is the big deal here.

Time for these charlatans to do the right thing and resign from their positions.

  16. I know PMQs isn’t on tomorrow, but I know exactly how it would’ve gone. PMQs could basically be run by a bot at this point

Kier: That was very naughty of you indeed. You should resign.

Boris: The public don’t care about a party that happened two years ago! The opposition are soooo out of touch! We’ll continue to do our jobs facing the threat of Russia, delivering on Brexit, fighting covid with the fastest vaccine roll-out ever seen ever in the whole world and fighting the cost of living crisis with the biggest rise in living wage ever!

*Tory benches clamour like a zoo at feeding time*

Blackford: Boris Johnson, you are a liar!

Speaker: Shut up!!! You can’t say that!!! Get out of the commons Ian!!!

  17. >But a spokesman said they had not been told which event the fine was for.

The very fact there are multiple is the problem

  18. Boris Johnson did something illegal…. Oh boy…. Trans people and immigrants… Watch out this week please. You’ll be targeted this week by the tories.

  19. So will the leader of the SNP get an apology for being kicked out of Westminister for suggesting that Boris had knowingly lied to parliament?

  20. Already some Conservative MPs are saying “Now is not the time to change the leader of the country”

    Fuck. Off.

We we changed the Prime Minister in 1940 *during World War II* so we can bloody well change the Prime Minister in 2022 when (despite what is happening in Ukraine) the U.K. is *not* at war.

Anyone who defends Boris now – politician, media, whoever – is a fucking brown-nosing cunt.

But we all know won’t resign because to resign means having at least some sense of honour and duty and principles, which he absolutely has zero of.

**(Comment amended. Previously it said “we held a general election in 1940” but this was incorrect. However the Prime Minister did change, so I have amended my original comment to be more accurate)
