Foreign tourists, especially American and British female visitors, seem to be “in love” with Greece, according to the latest report by INSETE (October 2024–March 2025), titled “Greece’s Reputation and That of Each Region on Social Media and Travel Websites,” awarding ratings of 9.5 and 9.3, respectively, making them the most enthusiastic visitors, followed by Germans, French, and Italians with slightly lower scores.

Notably, the survey indicates Greece outstrips the European average—even during the winter season—demonstrating remarkable resilience and an ability to meet travelers’ expectations.

Meanwhile, according to the latest data from the European Travel Commission (ETC), Greece continues its steady surge in arrivals, ranking among the most popular European destinations. The country recorded a notable 5% increase in international arrivals year-on-year, surpassing the European average of 3.3% during the January–May period.

The same study highlights that Greece recorded the largest rise in arrivals of foreign tourists compared to other European destinations: a 20% increase in arrivals from Germany, a 40% rise from the United Kingdom, and a significant 16.2% increase from the United States. Among the major markets that support Greece as a tourist destination, arrivals from France fell by 20% over the five-month period, likely due to shifting preferences and a trend among French travelers towards more “traditional” or domestic destinations, according to ETC.

The ETC report also notes that demand for off-season holidays, particularly in sunny coastal destinations, continues to rise steadily. Searches for spring getaways within Europe surged by 36% this year, a trend linked both to the later timing of Easter and to a new traveler mindset favoring trips during milder temperatures and to less crowded places. Greece, along with Malta, Cyprus, Spain, and Portugal, ranks among the main beneficiaries of this trend.
