Who in government is responsible for this? Who actually made the decision to use the ERU and not the Rangers? I hope we find out, but they’ll probably cover it up.
Whoever it was got lucky this time, because nothing happened. Imagine if it had, though?
Political, neutrality optics.
And sure its only Coveney anyway.
Well that sound like a terrible idea
The ERU wouldn’t have the training for war zones.
Might be implications/restrictions in sending army members to an active warzone and just have been easier to send police officers instead. Bit odd, altogether.
The Rangers seem to be so secretive I’m not sure they even exist.
Another mistake I believe that was made in relation to this is the identity of folks in the ERU is meant to be a secret for operational reasons.
Yet, they were clearly marked and unmasked in dozens of press shots taken at this event. Surely from an intelligence standpoint that’s a fuck up too…
Sounds like a perfectly logical decision in my book.
I seriously doubt the SAS accompanied Boris there last week.
You can’t just deploy foreign military personnel into an active war zone.
Can I ask what everyone’s outrage is about this? I’m genuinely confused. Majority of ERU and ASU are former rangers so the same level of training was given, if not more to the ESU lads.
Is it simply because the army wasn’t used? I get the defence forces being annoyed as they didn’t get to go, but the general public being annoyed I can’t understand.
Doesn’t Coveney and Co owe the ARW quite a bit in unpaid wages?
